MG3 is a product improvment over the MG42.  We still field the M2HB that came out in the 1933.  I still have WWII M2 HBs that I service on down range.  The M240B/MAG58 is nothing more but an updated and modified Browning 1918 BAR with a FN BAR Type D quick change barrel and MG42 feed system.  Also remember the 9x19mm cartridge been out since 1902.

Looks like summer time. I got there in January of 2008

Is anyone able to run the serial number of a rifle?

I'm dying to find out what happened to my old boot camp rifle from MCRD PI.

It was a colt m16a2, serial number 6340345.

Shortly after it started pouring down rain right after we got done doing mag dumps. I think I did 10-13 mags (it's been 15 years now) on burst and my rifle was SMOKING hot with a lot of steam coming from below the handguards.

So can someone help me out here. I have an early 90's A2 musket, that I've put together. A clone of what I was issued in 92. It's an FN F diagonal K upper and I'm trying to find a definitive answer on the forward assist. I am pretty sure they were all the small button but wondering if there were any modified large buttons out there, at the time.

Once in the system, they are there for decades.  I haven't seen any of the large D in ages.  I do see tear drop FA every now and then but they had decades of use. I would say your A2 rifle had a current FA.

You want muskets?

Has anyone ever FOIA’d the serial number of their old rifle? I still remember mine. I may have to go look it up

That's a rare large circle forward assist.

The one spare stripped upper I got for 70$ is being built into a complete 'nother a2.

I have a problem, gentlemen.

its also a very strange photo....

no name/branch tapes, no unit patches, no ranks.... no jungle boots, but that's not something they all wore, so it may not be too odd.

Were uniforms sanitized in OJC?

M70 scout sniper rifles? Those look like M40A1s to me. Some nice smear stocks too.

Probably resupply after they had been in country for a while. It might have been easier to issue new rather than set up a field laundry.

Basic Training Rifle Range

Video description:

This is video that was recorded by a photography company in Columbus, Georgia while I was in US Army Basic Combat Training from August-Nov 1997. This company would record various bits of training and then rip of the Joes by charging them large quantities of hard-earned money for this bouncy, grainy video. Anyways....its good to have this record of what I was going through, though it is hardly all-encompassing. This is video from the rifle range. Shortly after introduction to our new best friend, the M-16A2, we started practicing for marksmanship qualification. This shows the unglamorous side of rifle training in the Army. From getting "rodded off the range" to make sure you had no obstructions in your barrel, to counting out rounds at the ammunition supply point, this is Army basic training. Good stuff...Hooah! More clips from my basic training to come.
