Hey Folks,
I've been lurking for a few months doing quite a bit of research for my first AR. I chose to go the economical route and purchased an upper and lower from PSA. Specs:
I put 200 rounds of PMC X-Tac 5.56 down range for the first time yesterday and she ran absolutely flawlessly. My buddy with this $2300 billet custom AR was very much impressed that a low dollar AR could perform so well. To say I am pleased is an understatement. Now I just need to convince my Wife to buy me an Aimpoint Pro for my birthday! I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this forum for the great information available.

| Hello from the Peoples Republic of New Jersey. I've been lurking on and off for quite some time now. I had wanted to buy my first ar but after much reading here I decided to build it instead mostly. Came back from a gun show a couple weeks ago and couldn't stop thinking about it. Watched tons of videos on lower and upper assembly. I bought a Stag stripped lower at a local shop(5.56), ordered the LPK from Palmetto, then the rifle length buffer assembly from Stag and some 15/20 pinned magazines from another site. Then ordered a mostly complete upper from Palmetto with a 16" barrell, no hand guard. I'm going to get the upper modified at my local shop and then assemble it as much as possible. The stock, hand guard and rear sight will most likely come from the next gun show in PA just so I can hold a lot of different types and see what feels right. Hopefully save a few bucks too. Trying to keep this from getting expensive. I need to get some snap caps also for checking the action once assembled. Anyway sorry for the long post and thanks for all the information here. |

In any event, I am planning on building my first AR and decided to do it before the election makes everybody insane. My plan is to buy a stripped upper/lower set and build up over time as my schedule and finances allow. Nothing crazy - just a basic upper/lower with a low magnification optic. No lights, lasers, bipods or can openers. Anyway, I look forward to learning lots from you all! |
Hello all! New to the forum, but fairly familiar w/the machinery. USMC vet, now FF/EMT. From and live in the great state of TX. Love Ar's, love guns in general...looking forward to meeting some good people on here and expanding my knowledge base for this lovely platform. I dont have alot of pics of some of my toys, but heres a pic of my 1st AR i bult years back.Mainly spikes tactical/YHM parts w/.30cal YHM suppressor. Chambered in 7.62X39, she's my cheap range bitch. : )

I needed to add an AR to my small collection of guns. Thus began my research and the desire to build my own to learn and fully understand this awesome versatile piece of weaponry.
Parts have been arriving all week and the last thing I need to do is wait for my CA mandated 10 day waiting period to end so I can pick up my lower from the FFL. A couple of last minute items from the LGS when I pick up my lower and I will be all set to get building. Build Specs:
[*]BUIS, A2 F FSB, and Troy fixed rear[*/] No plans for optics any time soon. I will likely build another before I purchase optics. Most shooting will be at range or out in the hills at cans, targets, and squirrels. I want to do another in 14.5" with full floating rail, low profile gas block and flip up BUIS. Thanks in advance for any comments or input you provide. I have been eating, sleeping, breathing AR-15 for weeks. I will be sure to post up pictures in the tacked |

The AR platform has so many options and variables that it can be overwhelming without guidance and expert advice. And so, after much lurk and reading, my first build! (Its only taken several years.) This started life as an Ares Armor eighty. Then painted, DIY, with Lauer Custom paint. Ambi safety. Ambi charging handle, by BCM. Magpul CTR stock. Econo-no name lower kit. PTAC upper, carbine 16", 1/9 twist sold by PSA. Sharpes Rifle Company Relia-Bolt and Balanced Bolt Carrier. CS buffer spring and extractor spring from Springco. H2 buffer. Primary Arms red dot Peoples Republik of Kalifornia compliant bullet button and 10 round magazines. Garand wed sling. Stil to come; BCM Mod 0 pistol grip Magpul fore-stock Vortex flash eliminator PDQ Ambi-Bolt Release MORE MAGAZINES AND AMMO!

The ambi stuff is for my wonderful nieces and nephews who I hope to hook on guns. The guiding idea on this rifle was home defense. So far the rifle has been running like a champ. JOY! BTW. the bolt and BCG are super easy to clean, love that NP3 finish. Already working on the next AR which should be an A3 rifle for Appleseed type shooting. |

Just interested in information. I don't have an AR-15. I'm an ex-cop. But the only training I got with an AR-15 was how to shoot it in the rare case you are with an officer who is down and has one to use. I was with a large department and not everyone was assigned a long gun or shotgun. Anyway, I have a Glock as a firearm. I like it and that is what we were trained to use.

New to forum and building and know of strength in numbers. I decided to build one.
.223 wylde Odin DMR SS Barrel (not sure of upper at this time.); l think forged will be fine. Gonna buy stripped upper and lower, likely BoNi BCG. Magpul buffer and stock and DDforend ff. This will be a shooter and not eye candy, so have optic and will go w/canted Buis from Troy. I work 5min from PSA. That is nice. So, lets spitball this. It looks like I can bottom line just short of $2000 ttxi. Let me know your thoughts. Thank u ahead of time. |

I'm another new guy. created a profile to read posts and be able to look at pictures awhile ago. I'm new to the AR platform, but have been around firearms for most of my life, usually bolt action hunting rifles and shotguns. Figured I'd actually make a first post and show off my rifle. I ordered an upper and lower separately from Radical Firearms here in Houston. It's a Seekins lower mated to one of their uppers with a 12" rail. I ended up putting a Vortex RDS and I'm using ProMag aluminum flip up sights for now. I'd like to get a set of Troy or Diamondhead down the line, but couldn't justify $200+ to the wifey yet...

Hi. I'm DrNipps (Not really a doctor). Member of GunBroker forums and was doing a little research on there about AR-15s but appears everyone say this is the place to go for that kind of thing. Not really sure what I want to get into (build from scratch or buy already assembled), and not even sure what kind of price cap I want to set. Thought I'd come over here and look at some options and get to know the different parts first.

| Hi, my name is nshortri. I been a long time fan of ar15.com and guns in general. I have a Colt M4A1 and I got this rifle brand new few years ago. It is very accurate right out of the box! I bought an acog scope about 6 months ago and it really does make a difference at the range! |

Hi from Anchorage! Joe here, I'm relatively new to the world of ARs, up to recently I really only owned a few .22s and a shotgun. It started with a cool guy who I bought some MREs off of. He gave me 42 steel AR15 magazines because he was moving to Cali, so I figured it was a good time to get an AR! Just bought a build kit on sale from PSA, it's pretty much the most basic kit ever, but I'm new, so hopefully I'll learn what's good. Also bought an 80% lower from Range Tool and a StealthArms jig kit. I have a drill press, but have still been hesitant to try to finish the lower. Here is the PSA rifle kit I bought!

Hi, I'm Kevin and fairly new to the Forum and now brand-new to AR ownership. I've been shooting nothing but vintage .30 Cal wood and steel (the 2 below the AR in the pic plus others) for a couple of years and want to move into another level. Totally focused on traditional competition (not 3 gun, etc...), shooting from position from 200 to 600 yards, iron sights only. This is a Rock River NM A4 with 1/4 minute sights and a 20-inch match barrel. Competition rules require it to look like (pretty much) as-issued military, thus no collapsible stock. The carry handle will come off the A4 so if expected Rule changes happen, I can replace with low power optics if I want (next year).

Anyways I hear you guys like pictures. The stock I replaced is an Ace Skeletal full size(Non entry model) Also the image I posted doesn't want to post for some reason. Do I need some crazy BBcode to post images here?

Acquired many parts and pieces (mags, scope, range bag, Magpul goodies, and plenty of ammo) awaiting my ten days to pass so Kalifornistan will release my RRA. So far I've gleaned lots on data here that helped me make the choices so far. Looking to complete the rifle and get it sighted in Friday. Will add pics soon. Steve |

Just joined the forum, though I think I was a member a decade ago under another name. Lost that login, and I've moved twice since then. Anyway, I have a Bushmaster AR-15 that I bought way, way back in the Clinton ban years. More recently, like yesterday, I bought a lower and intend to build it out into a relatively inexpensive AR very soon. |
Hello everyone, newb here who has been lurking for a few months and just bought my first AR-15. I grew up around Colts due to grandpa being FFL and taking me to a lot of gunshows to help work his tables so Colt has sentimental value on top of being an American icon (imo). This paired with their recent struggles and uncertainty in who will own them going forward made the decision to grab a Colt now easy. I went with the LE6920 SOCOM and took a couple pics while doing the initial clean. Still need to order PMAGs and a case this weekend and take her to the gun range whenever the temp isn't 100+ outside. I look forward to learning more and probably going broke buying attachments and ammo for my AR :)

Txl Just saw this post, well to be quite honest I had it about 50% on and I ripped it right in half. At that point after spending awhile to get it on I just was frustrated and put the stock back together and put it on. I haven't bruised a cheek yet so in my book its all gravy and works well :) |

Hello everyone, I'm a former Marine (infantry as well as marksmanship coach and trainer), and I am starting down the path of building my own AR. Currently I work at a big chain outdoors/firearms store where I sell guns as a full time job. I am also a full time student, so I figured with all of this extra time I'm gonna have I'd jump into this world. On top of that, I'm married, and I have a kid from a previous marriage. Long time looker here. Joined earlier this year when I started my build but never posted on this thread. FINALLY all done with the build so introducing myself here and showing it off.
My name is Kevin and I live near Richmond, VA (just moved from NC). Owner of Ammodors and build handmade cigar humidors our of surplus ammo cans. My build is a Spikes lower with Adams Arms 16" Evo Ultra Lite Upper, Tac-Con 3MR trigger, Magpul furniture and UTG 3-9x32 scope. Hoping to make it to my local range soon to give it the first run.
