Hi everyone, like everyone else lurked for a while now its time to join and build.
I am from Connecticut where AR15's are banned and with even stricter rules and loopholes getting closed up on the horizon, its time to move on a pre-ban receiver and build one (or a bunch) of these before I can't. I have been shooting since I was little with my dad, right now just owning a couple pistols, my EDC Springfield XDS .45 and my baby, my Sig Sauer P220 Platinum custom elite. Besides guns I am a mechanic turning wrenches for a living specializing in light duty diesel trucks and have built my own 1200 horsepower Dodge Ram Cummins diesel sled pulling truck that I compete with around the northeast. From what I've seen on this site the wealth of knowledge is through the roof and I can't wait to learn in building my own AR15! Thanks in advance everyone!

Hey ARFCOMMERS,
New guy from the communist state of NJ here with a new year, new rifle, and a LOT to learn! After browsing here, reddit and q few other forums I narrowed it down to the build I have now. Parts may change, including eventually removing the A2 front sight for a low profile gas block, but I have no idea about the diameter of the barrel. Just got this rifle over the weekend, and I need to zero the new scope. 
Hope to paint with some good old Krylon in the near future! |

Hello All
I am new to this forum, actually I have been lurking for a while and decided to join. Thank you for hopefully accepting me to the community. I promise to be a noob to the fullest extent. And then eventually turn into a wise cracking member if so permitted, I recently started trying to build an AR pistol in the 300 blackout. What ups guys From Las Vegas, Decided instead of lurking I should join the team. Just Put together a rifle for under $800. It took 2 months But I am happy of how it turned out. I Have a ton of questions and im looking forward to building more rifles with the help of this forum! Here is my Baby!

Hey I'm Mike from eastern NC. I've just started my 1st ar build using a S&W M&P15 lower. I plan on using a 18 or 20 in barrel, chambered for 5.56, and all magpul furniture. I've got some tech questions about the ar platform that I'm sure have been answered before.
I'm a mechanic for a municipality and have a thing for military trucks. 1 quick question I couldn't figure out where to post this, how do you change your profile pic? |

Greetings all, I'm new to AR's, I just got my first one a couple weeks ago. I traded my JRC 9mm for a DTI 5.56. The gun came pretty stock the only addition made by the previous owner was a Bushnell trophy red dot. I didnt like the looks of the scope, so it was an excuse to buy a strikefire II lol. Needless to say I have customized the gun to my likings and am happy for now...Shooting is fun, but my real joy comes in customizing, taking down, cleaning and putting the gun back together again. I'm really at peace with myself when im doing that...hope that doesnt make me crazy lol The link below is my current situation..I have it posted on another gun site, and just used the link, i hope im not breaking any rules by posting that link, im not trying to promote and another forum, but just show a pic. If its a problem let me know i will remove it.

Hi, my name's Chad, from Texas. I have been wanting to get myself an AR for some time but made the easy excuses of not being able to save up so I finally decided I needed to build my own. So far I only have an Aero Prec lower that I installed the LPK into. I have been looking at their Enhanced upper but found it to be a bit limiting to what rails I can use with it so decided I will be getting their standard upper(prob today or tomorrow since they have a weekend sale going). Next looking at Hogue grip and buttstock kit in FDE. For barrel was thinking about Blackhole Weaponry but haven't seen or heard much in reviews since '12. Other than that, waiting on the either the Fortis REV II Rail or X Product's Viper Rail in FDE.
Anyways, hope to get this thing together before Fall n appreciate all the help I'm sure I'll get. |

Hi everyone!
I'm new to this forum obviously since I'm posting here. Tax season is coming up which means refund so I will finally able to purchase my 1st AR-15 so I what better place to learn about it than here. I would put myself in the just above noob category when it comes to guns. I caught the bug when I went shooting with my buddy about 4 years ago and since then I've picked up a few guns. I live in San Diego, CA so I don't get the fun stuff like the rest of ya'll but I do what I can. I'll post a pic of my arsenal and hopefully will grow within the next couple months.

Smitty in Central NC here. New to the forums but not necessarily to the the AR Platform Rifle. I had a Colt H-Bar AR15 years ago before the ban and like a dumb ass, I sold it for nearly nothing. I bought a Armalite AR10 about a year ago and I love it. But that only got my taste buds ready for more. Now I'm looking to get another AR15 and wondering what the consensus is on the SIG 516. In specific, I am looking at the Patrol ODG version. Does anyone here have one and if so how do you like it? Would you buy it again?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

hello everyone, new here from PA.. I have only owned handguns and getting tired of borrowing friends rifles on the weekends... still trying to do some homework with exactly how I want to build my rifle and parts

New guy here. My uncle and I are building my first AR15. (He's built many and is helping me.) I've always been a handgun guy and spent a large amount of time as a teenager with a 12 gauge at the trap range. But was never much into rifles. That is until I spent a day behind my uncles latest AR build, his Springfield M1A, and his incredible new .300 Weatherby he just got for Elk hunting. So now I'm saving up some cash for an AR build. 
edit... I found the steel case ammo info I was looking for.  I'll make sure to search around better.

Welcome. You will see lots of opinions on steel cased ammo. I've used it in my ARs since the 90s and have had no major problems. If you're interested in using the ammo, I would say try and see if your rifle runs with it. |

Hey y'all,
New to the forum. I a beginning my foray into the AR world. I used the M16 years ago in the service. Working in the armory, I learned most everything about them. I was never really a fanatic about the platform though. it is a good platform for the way it is utilized in the military but I never was that crazy about it. I am a handgunner with an interest in firearms in general. This last gun show, I saw a stripped lower with looked like shark teeth around the magwell with a tag that displayed $129. I thought, "that's cool!" (me being a WWII history buff thought it kinda looked like the AVG P-40 nose...lol) I went home and looked it up online and found it was a Spikes billet receiver that they listed as $229. I'm like, "that sounds like a deal! I may just build me one of those things!" I went back to the show the next day to buy it only to find that the $129 price was the tag for the receiver next to it...daggum! Well, it started me wanting to build one anyway. One of the FFLs there at the show was wanting his logo revamped and wanted some t-shirts printed and I was gonna do that for him anyway but I figured I'd ask him if he would be willing to barter my cost on the t-shirts for his cost on a stripped lower. He was agreeable and asked me what I was interested in. Once it was all said and done, he comped me an Anderson forged stripped lower and a CMC single stage for within $2 of the cost of the t-shirts. So, today, I stepped off into the kiddie pool with a stripped lower and a drop-in trigger group. I will be perusing this forum as I move forward with this build. Been lurking around this site for a couple of months now and decided I would join and say Hello
Started off with a Carbine length 5.56 for my first AR15 and have now customized it to my liking where it is now has an 18" Titanium barrel with rifle length free float hand guard and a 3-9x40 scope. Just finished building her up last night and will be heading out to the range tomorrow to test her out.

Hello, I'm new to the forum and new to the AR-15. I really want to build one from the ground up. Just don't know what all good as for as parts go and what works with what. I would like help in what goes with what. I want to do a gas piston ar 5.56. Here's a list of parts that I was wanting to get. Just mainly want help with the upper. Also would like it to be full float. Please be spefic as possible with parts because I'm new at this. Also if you would change any of the parts can you please tell me why. Thank you

Well, since I've been posting here for a few days already I might as well introduce myself. I'm Tarasdad (Tara's Dad, for the...well, you know ) and while I'm not necessarily new to the AR it has been a while since I had one. As in, before the Clinton ban, and then it was a Colt Match H-BAR - not necessarily the lightest and most maneuverable rifle around. So much of what goes on in the AR world is very much new to me. Recently I decided it's time to build my first. I've thought of it off and on for a few years but now I'm ready to actually do it. That's what lead me here. I'd heard of the site before just never visited. That, obviously, had changed. Unless I have a doppelganger that is. As for who I am, well, really not that much to tell. I'm a Native Texan currently "living" (aka trapped) in Commiefornia. I'm happily married to a wonderful woman who I don't deserve, and we have two dogs and three cats to keep us company. We do have one daughter, Tara (hence my moniker), but she went back to live with her Heavenly Father after only an hour and fifteen minutes of mortal life. I am a life-long shooter, hunter, plinker, and competitive shooter; Life Member of the NRA since 1980, currently upgrading to Endowment Life; Life member of the Texas State Rifle Association; have been retired on disability for 8 years now. I've been out of the shooting sports far too long and really want to get back in! |

Hi all,
I just joined the site a few minutes ago. I've never really looked on here before but there seems to be a TON of good info. A little background on me: I just recently separated AD AF in Dec to go back to school full time. I gave up my other hobby of jeeps just last month after dealing with the death of a friend and his wife while on the trail with me. I've shot the m16 through the AF multiple times and have fired a few friends ARs as well. I bought my first gun (Glock 19 gen4) 2 years ago and the firearm bug bit me. Now that I have the extra cash, I'm looking to purchase or build my first AR. I'm actually in the middle of moving my entire family up to anchorage, Alaska so now I hopefully get to build my arsenal even more (CEO approval, of course). |

New to the site. Been lurking around for quite awhile. Have had my AR for about 4 years now. Cannot wait to learn even more about this amazing platform. Just added the stock and grip. Changed my red dot recently also to a Primary Arms Micro Red Dot. Probably about to swap uppers with my brother. Just to change the look up a little.
