I have a A2 upper with really a unknown round count, but I think around 2000 rounds though.. I have a brand new BCG. Do I have to check headspace you think? I have built alot of ARs using used parts and have never had a problem ever or checked Headspace in an AR before.. But am getting older now and more responsible,LOL

Thanks

That is kinda what I was reading here. But there are conflicting views just like in every question. Usually I just fire a round, feel for any anomaly's, look the brass over good after firing and go to town.

Thanks

Checking headspace is always recommended.

I've personally never checked headspace when putting a new bolt in a used upper.  But I always check if new/new.

It's probably a good practice in general but I'd imagine if it's a used upper and a good quality bolt you'd be fine.  But might as well check to be safe, especially if you or a buddy have the tools. I use the go/no-go gauges I picked up from Brownells years ago.

What gauges are you running for 556 chambers?

It was always taught not to switch bolts between rifles when I was in the Army. Most of that was due to not knowing how wore out the rifles were or what the round counts were. While it IS a good idea to check head space, you should be okay with only 2000 round count on your rifle.
