The pictures are from vickers AR guide second edition. The 602 serial number 031312 has an "F7" on the buttstock and also the carry handle. My upper has an "F5" on the carry handle in the same exact location as the one seen in vickers book. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the info and 1966 it was appraised at $99.50 that's mind blowing

The prototypes were valued at around $3000 in the mid-60s. Still crazy.

I think you’ve made a pretty good observation. I’d probably engrave my serial to be 031310 or in the ballpark if you haven’t already (military rack numbers aren’t necessarily in SN order in my experience in the Army. They might have been during these early deliveries of M16s though). And id probably paint-pen my stock too.

My 601 receiver stub is under 10 digits away from a rifle in the book. I also have a barrel with a rack number exactly like the 601 in the air force museum, #836.

Id still do it then. I have yet to see an arms room since I’ve been in the Army where the buttstock #s are in serial order.

Is this the one you were trying to sell a while back?

I did have it listed for sale once or twice when I was low on cash but thankfully all is good now and I got to keep it

Of all the parts that passed through my hands, that’s one thing I was truly envious of.

I’m glad I could help you paint that lower to match better.

So the F-7 in the pic, that’s a 602 upper… where is the windage arrow?

I know that. Is there an arrow on the F-7 upper? I don’t see it

Yeah he is absolutely right, I never picked up on that

Don't mind my rough finger but I am pointing to the red paint on the carry handle.

Extremely odd. A 602 with 601 upper.

It isnt that odd as far as im concerned.  With AK's, Ive seen miltiple legit type 2's with type 3(later) barrel parts.  Also type 2's with early type 1 and then standard type 2 barrels/parts.  In this case it would be the same, old uppers/lowers getting fitted with likely more limited supply of newer barrels/components first.  Makes it even more rare and desirable....

My Puerto Rican 601 Kit was essentially this, it had Black Type C furniture, 601 upper receiver, triangle CH, correct barrel for either late 601 or early 602, etc. I didn't get the magwell with the kit, so I have no idea if it was marked 601 or 602 but I think it was an early 602 that used up leftover 601 upper receivers but I'll never know.

Would have been nice to know the serials on all of those rifles… there were quite a few. All with good info.
