Midwest Industries Ultra Light Weight Handguards (MI-ULW)
Though Midwest Industries has always been conscious of weight when it comes to our handguards we have taken it to a new level with the Midwest Industries Ultra Light Weight (ULW) line of our combat handguards. These handguards are made of 6061 aluminum and are type III hard coat anodized. The barrel nut and hardware are made of grade 5 titanium. They feature 4 sides of M-LOK slots for the mounting of accessories and have 2 built in QD anti rotation sockets for use with a QD sling. The outside diameter is 1.5” and the inside diameter is 1.3” These handguards go through a dehorning and deburring process for both aesthetics as well as functional purposes. These handguards install without requiring the heating of any parts, timing of the barrel nut, shims or special fasteners, and without the use of any Loctite or other adhesives. A barrel nut wrench as well as the needed Allen head wrenches are included. All weights posted include all mounting hardware. One five slot polymer M-LOK rail section is included with each handguard. Like everything we make this handguard is 100% made in the USA and is backed by our Lifetime Warranty. The 10.5” weight is 6.8 oz The 12.625” weight is 7.9 oz The 14” weight is 8.4 oz The 15” weight is 8.9 oz www.midwestindustriesinc.com Ultra Light Weight (MI-ULW) |

Good looking rails!

Nice that the bbl nut doesn't interfere with the gas tube. I need two or three of these.
|
|
Let me put my meat on your grill.
|
Finally, but oh man. Now I'll need an offset mount since no 1 o clock MLOK slot there. I'll order one of these for now.
IMO, the last slot or 2 at the end should be MLOK compatible. |

Is there any chance we can get a Titanium barrel nut for Gen3 lightweight handguards?

Inner diameter?

If you had used one and were not happy with it we would of course work with you to find a solution. For you to speak to the rigidness of this handguard without having used one is in poor taste. -Pete |

There's just a tiny gap. As you shoot and upper heats up, the gap expands. Drives my OCD nuts. If there was a 9" version, I would probably replace the DD. Even the regular combat 9.25" is too big. I had to trim my DD MFR 9.0 just slightly for suppressor clearance. Couple of nitpicks. 1 is about is all the damn oil on the parts. It's mostly aluminum and titanium. Does it really need to be soaking in oil? The only steel part is that little torque plate. 2, I'm missing the little picatinny section. Not a big deal for me personally since I wont be using it. Just reporting it. Again, I do wish it had M-LOK at the farther 1 o clock position, but there's ways around that with offset mounts. Also need to decide on how to mount tape switch. Cant wait to go blasting with this. View Quote The reason for the oil is that we don’t know how long this product will sit on a distributors or dealers shelf or a customers work bench for that matter. When anodizing dries out it gets a slight gray look too it. By putting on a liberal amount of oil we are able to avoid calls on the color of the handguard. Please send me an email regarding the rail section. [email protected] |

What I was asking if you plan on making a Titanium Gen 3 barrel nut, not if it was compatible with the Combat Handguard barrel nut. Sorry for the confusion.

Very nice.
One point/question of constructive criticism... Why did you ditch the front integrated QD's on your recent rail offerings? I think a lot of people like having them. I know I like having them on my G3 rails. |

I know I like having them on my G3 rails. View Quote The front QD sockets prevent people who run lights on their rifles from mounting them all the way forward. The big trend right now is to run handguards the length of the barrel which makes a lot of sense. One reason for this is that it allows you to mount your light as far forward as possible to prevent shadowing. With the removal of the QDs this is easier to accomplish. If you run your sling out on the handguard you always have the option to use a M-LOK mount. This also allows you to mount the sling in the perfect spot for you. Hope this helps you understand. Pete |

I just sprayed my first test parts tonight in getting ready to do a MI combat rail that is in the mail to me from Brownells. If the upcharge for cerakote is not too much I would definitely rather buy rails already coated in FDE from you than do it myself. Thanks for your reply letting me/us know what you are considering, and for making my favorite handguards! |

What barrel and length is on the rifle in the first post? Is it a barrel you guys sell?
|

One guys opinion but I really like the anodized FDE and its variation, wish it was more common.

These are fantastic. I have one on a 14.5 Faxon gunner and it is a lightweight without feeling flimsy. My favorite hand guard. That said, the barrel nut tool was pretty bad as far as fit. Had to do some grinding to make it work. Overall it was worth it.

need a 7" in this for the shorty builds

Love the gen 2s & gen 3s and this even more.
Consider producing a lightweight, true slick side forged upper (no fa/port door/deflector) to mate with these. |

The new rails look great and apparently easy to install.
Are the two top tabs on the receiver end anti-rotational tabs? Do these hand-guards fit on all upper receivers - if not which one do they fit or not fit? Thanks |
|
|
The tabs on top are anti rotation . They were designed fit mil spec forged uppers . They fit some billets but we do not have a list of what ones interfere with the anti rotation tabs. There are way to many brands out there to keep track of. If you have a billet the gen three should work in most cases .
Thanks Troy MI |
