Looking to see if anyone has both of these systems. I have an MRP upper with a DI barrel and a wolf A1 upper that I bought on a whim when I found out about it. Lately I have been considering selling my wolf upper to help fund the expensive MRP piston barrel and BCG and wondering what the opinions are here on both systems and which might be better.  I'm fairly certain I have read that the LMT piston is in active use with a military somewhere, but the wolf A1 is as well kinda as the T91.

I don't have any experience, at all, with the Wolf upper. I do have experience with LMT's piston system.

It would surprise me if anyone would recommend the Wolf over LMT.  LMT is an established US based manufacturer with actual military contracts around the world.  Parts are available with a phone call to them, and their system is extremely robust.  When combined with their monolithic upper I don't see how Wolf could compete.

I'm the opposite, don't know anything about the LMT but have experience with the Wolf A1. My 16 inch A1 works with any ammo I put through it. I think the Wolf is the best option to get into a piston AR upper on a budget.
Something I don't see is an explanation of how other piston systems are better than the T-91 (Wolf A1).
Build what you want to. Please do let us know how it shoots.

I now have a pretty strong bias for LMT because the minister of romance and finance might just so happen to work there, but the 14.5" shovelnose piston I put together last month really really surprised me on recoil impulse, cleanliness, and how well it functioned with and without a suppressor.

But buying LMT's stuff at retail is enough to choke a horse, so that's a tough pill to swallow. The Wolf has been trickling into the country for years so they must have some sort of design that is holding up. I've nary heard a word bad about them.

I cannot say enough good about the LMT piston rifles, mine is outstanding, never an issue and really likes a suppressor hanging off the end.  Top LMT in the picture

LMT is a top tier manufacturer that some argue to be equal to (or superior to) KAC.  Accordingly, I do not believe there will be many products that are comparable in terms of engineering, quality of manufacture, or quality of materials.

2024 marks my 40th year of owning, building, shooting (informal, competition, and professional classes) AR15s.  In those years I've owned virtually everything, and am blessed in that I can afford any "brand" I want.  Having said that, for my money Colt and LMT get the nod for DI.  In the piston market there are some good options like HK (if you don't mind the non-chrome bore), Caracal and PWS (if you don't mind nitride bores) and LMT (if you appreciate chrome bores, quick change barrels and monolithic uppers).

As astute reader will not the attributes ascribed to the LMT.

How much is the LMT piston upper? $2k?

Can’t say anything about the Wolf, but after having an LMT 12” piston setup and mainly shooting it suppressed, it had become my favorite AR I’ve ever owned. Recoil impulse feels similar to a DI setup to me, and is just built better it feels like. For piston setups, I can only compare to PWS, Adams Arms, HK, and Sig. I’d go LMT > PWS > HK > Sig > AA.
