Is a bit of corrosion on the tip like tarnishing or "frosting" a problem? Newer mfg bullets should be bronze in color right?

Just oxidation. It doesn't effect anything at all.

Thought it was steel? Shouldn't it be rusty?

I've never found any corrosion on my M855A1 rounds, all of which have the bronzed surface treatment to them. I have noticed similar surface corrosion (or what appeared to be surface corrosion) on the brass of all kinds of ammo, specifically on the chambered round and the top one in the mag when firing suppressed, from all the gunk blasting back into the action.

Can you post a pic of what exactly you're seeing? It's probably just schmutz that got caked onto the projectile and can be safely rubbed/buffed off.

I've seen a lot of it, especially on older lots.

I've never heard of it causing problems.

per an older thread:

The white oxidation is because the steel tips have a 2 part protective system (Zinc against the steel and Sanchem on top of the Zinc).

The white oxidation is the Zinc oxidizing (essentially protecting the steel).
