Forgive my newb questions. One more.. when the new block accessories were issued was the old equipment considered obsolete and tossed? For example, would you find a block 2 rifle with block 1 optics or lights, etc., in the wild?

Generally when issued new equipment such as the Elcan, the ACOG would be turned in.

I wondered the same at one point. Didn't find an absolute answer but I assumed 2013-14.
They're still in use, that's for sure. 10th mountain was the host unit at a camp I was working out of last year in AFG and quite a few of those guys had them.

Can anyone tell me if a LaRue LT 7" rail will apply to the block 1.5 criteria?

I've dug up some old threads consisting of quite a few individuals stating that these were indeed in use on a unit level and in very few hands mid-late War on Terror era.
I've heard 5th group mentioned specifically. If anyone has any information to share on this, please do. This elusive M4 configuration is pretty intriguing.

Also, wanted to know if there were ever any QD end plate options for the block 1 and 2?

Sorry for the double post

Went through some old pics and got nostalgic seeing my old M4A1. Just ordered the Colt LE6920SOCOM to try and replicate my OIF2 rifle. That VLI may have not been too bright, but it worked. I think it was a little brighter using three CR123's instead of triple A's. I might have to give up on finding a PEQ-2 though. I wish there was an extended NT4 flash hider that I could replace the A2 one and avoid SBR engraving.Attachment Attached File

Just plain old Recon Bn. MARSOC wasn't stood up until mid '06 I believe. We got those M4A1's about two months before deployment. No RAS, just plain handguards. Got the ACOG at the same time. Once in country we got accessories from the unit we replaced. Brand new NT4's showed up about mid deployment. I was always jealous of the Force Recon guys with their 1911's.

Gotcha still pretty cool to see. That's probably the oldest USMC/M4A1 pics I've ever seen. I also noticed it appears you removed your plates in the first pic. Bold move.

Oh no, those SAPI's were in there! We did one overnight foot patrol with a really long movement and my team used our typical green side deuce gear...and we made contact. Had a good amount of standoff distance, lots of cover and an AC-130 supporting that night. I figured that was enough gambling without armor. Strictly wore it thereafter.

Here's a pic of another guy in company doing a mag dump with my rifle. You can see four pieces of brass flying, so it's a legit full-auto M4A1. There were some M4 burst rifles still in our armory at that time as well. I honestly didn't know the difference between the M4 and M4A1, besides the modes of fire, at that time.Attachment Attached File

There are spacers you can get that will bring an NT4 or A2 up to the legal length with a 14.5" barrel. They look great.

Snag it now bro. They're kind of dried up right now. And that's one less big/kind of hard to find piece you need. Grab NV and go.

I can always test it out for you as well since it doesn't have a vis laser
