It came like that from the factory. It was one of the changes listed in the Record of Changes log." Switching mount thumbs screws to right side". Haven't had a chance to move it yet, and probably won't. I will just get the Larue mount. Maybe I should turn the ACOG around to please to sticklers

The thumb screws on the right hand side.....don't interfere with the charging handle release now during Type 1 malfunctions/stoppages react drills. That's why the change was made.... Maj |

Ours were issued with the knobs on the left side. I moved mine to the right after seeing someone else in a different unit who had done that. I practice slapping the bolt release in reloads, and with the knobs on the left, that can get painful. I have also grabbed the knobs by mistake when I was trying to rack the action. |
That is why the knobs were moved to the "correct" side.

Yup, Darkstar117 is right. The only other thing is it was a Bushmaster "Tax-Time" Upper and a Rock River Arms Lower. I have not had a chance to shoot it with the ACOG. I can't wait. |
Thanks for the fast respond. Looks like Sabre Defense or BushMaster Upper. Tried to go through FN's LE Div. for a complete upper, but they said NO GO. |
OH Just got my upper delivered by UPS that I ordered and it has an H-bar  I specifically asked the dealer if it had a gov-profile barrel and t-marks. it has t-marked upper thought they are smaller and not colored in. So I guess I have to return it to have a somewhat correct clone. What a bummer Just looked at the receipt and it says 20% restocking fee on all returned orders |

I have no practical use for an AR with a barrel longer than 16"
It was originally a Giles 3-point made for an M16A2. Cut the front handguard strap off and attached it to a KAC QD rail mount with a spare buckle. |
FInally thanks to CMMG  cmmg 20" gov-profile upper correct acog M5 ras bushmaster lower have to put on the sling and grip and will be good to go! |

Please excuse the noob question. I started my first AR15 build and after going through this thread I have dedcided to make it a M16A4 clone. I just ordered a RRA Standard A4 upper. The specs on the website state that it comes with a HBAR. Will I be able to use the KAC RAS with the HBAR or will I have to change it to a government profile barrel? |

Ditto to Postal0311s advice, the gov't profile is desirable. With no rails, a 20" govt profile balances perfectly, but that extra few ounces starts to make it nose-heavy faster and faster... Maybe sell the barrel, or if you're hot on it, get it re-profiled at one of the many reputable 'smiths listed in the Industry section... P.S. Hmm.. now that I posted I should find a pis of my A4 clone.... well I only have one pic of it, before I mucked it up with krylon, a scope, and a bipod  Bushmaster 1/7 gov't profile, obviously an ARMs 40-A2 BUIS. I never did get that Aimpoint I wanted when I built the thing... |

The KAC M5 will fit over the HBAR. I used a Sabre Defence A4 upper with "F" FSB and 1:7" Gov't profile for my clone:  Never mind the Reflex; it's all I had lying around. Admittedly it does give a better sight picture mounted on the receiver, but I wanted the carry handle on there in lieu of a BUIS. Maybe I'll upgrade in the near future if all goes well... I'll have to choose a BUIS and an optic. I've tried the EOTECH and I liked it, so I'll most likely go that route. |

Nah... the ones I've seen in actual use had the carry handles on them, and I wanted to stick to that configuration. They didn't have the VFG, either, but this rifle balances nicely with the TD grip mounted where it is. I'll probably pick up an ARMS#40 and keep the carry handle in one piece. |

This thread has me wanting to say F*** my budget and order a CMMG upper to complete my A4gery build. Though i won't be able to shoot it any sooner since my toys are in another state while I'm stuck here in NC getting my education  . I should have just enlisted out of high school....but I've come to far to stop now and with only 1 year left it would be foolish of me to stop. That and I've got a great job lined up for this summer, the military will always be there after I graduate

Rails get damaged with hard use. Cheaper to replace rail panels then to replace a rail. Also, 1913 rails double as cheese graters. Aluminum is a nice heat conductor. Try leaving the rail out in the middle eastern sun for a while and grabing it bare handed. |
That may be your only option (unless you want to spend the money for a Colt). I'd suggest looking for the Sabre Defence upper, as it's MUCH nicer than the CMMG. I bought mine from PK Arms quite a while back, but I see that these uppers are no longer listed on the PK website. |

Looks great so far. Trust me, you'll be impressed with the weight savings. A .gov profile 20" with irons is a very well balanced rifle. |
