I am not sure what to use... I have numerous brand new , unused BCG's that are phosphated and Nitrated.
Edited to add... barrels, assm'd uppers ( no barrel ) , various "small" LPK's, triggers ( etc. ) ... no plastic parts. Heck, may as well add those.
Some are "sticky" from the manufacturer's anti rust "lube" / packing oil. Some are sticky enough that the firing pin drags.... and some are just dry as can be, lacking a "base" of oil on them.
All are respectable manufacturer BCG's ( IMHO ) ... AO Precision, Toolcraft, BCM, CMC, Faxon, Microbest, Colt.
They are 5.56 and 308 / 6.5CM BCG's
Being lazy.... Should I soak them all in mineral spirits, then disassemble and wipe clean... and bad side effects at the extractor... IE the "polymer" o'rings and extractor inserts ?
And then my thought is to place them in a appropriate sized glass jar and fill with Shell Rotella T6 oil... screw on the lid, and shake to jar to help displace air bubbles.
I would Allow them to sit in the oil overnight . Then remove them , allow them to drip dry.
And package them in VCI heavy mil plastic "ziplock" bags.
Any "better" oil products to use ? ... a mixture of Transmission fluid and motor oil ?
Any "better" solvents to easily dissolve the sticky OEM coatings ?
Better long term storage solutions ? They are meant to be back up parts... for use for the next decade, or foreseeable Anti-2A future.
I realize Cosmoline is a practical long term product... but would prefer something simpler to use ... IE pull from Motor oil, and install immediately.
I appreciate any advise and comments on my folly.... Lol
