I have a new upper on the way and have REALLY fallen in love with the MOE SL handguards. One side effect of the SL is needing to get rid of the front sling loop, and I've never done that myself before (all my uppers with them have been factory installed SL guards). My question is, if I don't have a vice, or a wheeler block to keep the front sight post stable will I drift or cant the FSB by tapping out the rivet with a punch and hammer? I can always try and support it with a thick towel or what not, but I didn't want to risk it if I had a chance of screwing the fsb up tapping it out.

Removed 2 and i use a bar clamp to pin the FSB to a plastic block or peice of wood. They come out easy.

I just take a hand drill and appropriate sized bit and drill it out.

I used a punch that fit inside of the pin and hammered it out. It worked so well in fact that if I ever decided to put the sling loop back on I could use the same pin.

good to know, but I went the lazy route. When I ordered my BCM upper I asked CS to knock it out for me from the factory. Came that way perfectly.

And I hope you have a round end cap as the magpul sl's require one, future likely holds you swingng a bfh to take off the fsb for cap replacement.

lol, I found that out AFTER it shipped. returned the MOE SL and just went with MOE M-lok grip. I'm too lazy to knock out those insanely tight FSB pins BCM puts in their rifles.

I used a Dremel and ground the expanded part of the rivet down so I could push it out.

A lot of people think the rivet is harder to remove than it is. I put a small punch in the concave side. Two hard taps with a brass hammer and it was out. Very easy.

The last time I removed one, I used a pair of end cutting pliers and just snipped the flared end of the rivet off. Those rivets are soft aluminum.
