My new 15" Guntec handguard came with these 5 separate thin metal rings. I have no idea where they go and what they are for. Do they serve as some sort of a gasket between the receiver and the new barrel nut? Should I use all 5?

Shims to time the barrel nut.

ETA: Read the instructions that came with it for what you need to use/do.

It was an open box special hahaha. Should I start with 3 and go from there?

Start without them. Add shims, if needed, to get the hardware to align. Most times none are needed.
