I'm hearing some rumors that an ammo manufacturer in India is exporting millions of rounds of 5.56mm ammo to the US. Anyone hear of such a thing???

Years go there was some surplus Indian .308 imported that was junk

Nice hole for some enterprising company or country to fill.

Last decent ammo from that part of the world was probably made in the Dum Dum Arsenal

India is corrupt to its core, no way would I trust ammo from there.

They'd be akin to a poor-mans lower-quality alternative to the PPU crap bullets (the PPU brass tends to be GTG)

The 7.62 stuff from the 70’s was decent. The 90’s stuff was downright dangerous.

I wouldn’t buy anything from there now.

Yes.  Even worse was there were sellers at gunshows that were selling the 90s Indian ammo and calling it Australian.  I ended up with 600 rounds of that stuff because I didn't think to open up the cans and check the headstamp until I got home.

IIRC Great Britain's MoD was still buying ammo from India into the 80's. QC ended when The Crown quit buying.

At least when you call them about an issue they have plenty of call centers.

The bad thing is any ammo hitting the shelves will get sucked up and most consumers won't care where it came from.  The good news is it might allow for a little blip to help domestic mfgs to catch up some.

Hard pass....
I guess if a purchased a cheap Bear Creek upper/lower/barrel, and dunked it in motor oil while wearing full protective gear, i would consider it.

They fought China with their fists instead of trusting their ammo, I don't trust either.

The ammo from when the British were running the manufacturing in India is good.  I have shot two cases of this ammo and it is reliable and accurate for M80.

Not only no, but hell no. India is not a source of trust for anything much less explosives.

I would pass on that

You guys can all shoot it. I learned my lesson with Indian .303 British ammo and then Indian 7.62x51 ammo years ago.  I don’t see the need to waste my time and, potentially, guns and fingers and eyeballs.

Does anyone know the head stamp of the bad 308 from the 90's?  I think I may have some old stuff?
