I usually purchased Federal 556 but have been seeing a lot of Norma Lake City around, is it a good plinking ammo?

Thanks,

Bronc

Thanks,

I searched and found nothing, how do you find an old topic like this?

The old Norma made in Europe was considered by many to be very accurate.  The new Norma is just Lake City in a different package, but Ok for  plinking.

Everyone raved about the Norma-Tac a few years ago. It was ok.

Geco from around 2013 was fantastically accurate but by 2017 they changed something and it was just OK like Norma-Tac.

For plinking it's fine.

It runs fine in my rifles. Decent accuracy and the price was cheap when I bought it two years ago.

Good stuff loaded at Lake City.

Not match ammunition, but good for general purpose use.

Remember, GECO made a .223 version and 5.56 version.  My AR's hated the 5.56 version.

GECO made .223 FMJ for MANY different ammo manufacturers... even Black Hills ( different powder same cases and bullets, but same box and plastic stripper clips. )

Black Hills version..

Current product Norma ... is made at LC.

Yes, GECO ammo can be made in Germany, Hungary, Switzerland and maybe other places. I believe it is owned by Dynamite/Nobel which owns Norma also.
GECO brass was used by Black Hills and I have some of that ammo still (62gr all copper). I remember Black Hills talking about how excellent the GECO brass was.

I still have a few cases of the GECO 55FMJ (223 not 556) Swiss made and it is the most accurate FMJ ammo that I have ever tried. I believe it's all from 2013 when I was buying cases from SG Ammo. That fantastic ammo disappeared around 2014 but then Norma Tac came out and looked to be made the same but shot like shit (although many people here raved about it. GECO ammo re-appeared around 2017. Ammo looked identical. Same packaging, same cases, same headstamp. But no where near as consistent as the older stuff from 2013.

Pretty much any ammo made by RUAG companies in Europe (like GECO and Norma) are close to 1 MoA or better. Red box Norma is made at LC and has the typical LC shit accuracy. I don't know why a brand with the reputation of RUAG would contract for a lower quality product. Black box Norma is gtg
