I have a stripped A1 upper that a friend of a friend is interested in.  To me it looks like it has never been assembled.  Forward assist, but no brass deflector.  What is this style called?

It has C and H forge codes on the handle web below the sight.  Is this a Colt upper, or some other supplier to the world?

Any info to help make my decision about parting with it would be welcome (but NOT A VALUE...I posted in the appropriate thread for that).  Now that I have potentially offered it, I'm having second thoughts about parting with it.  I have already built an A1 style rifle using an M16 parts kit and also an XM177E2.  Don't know what else I would build in an A1 style, so I don't have any particular plans for this.  It has been hanging out in my parts bin.

Thanks folks!

Looks like a Colt upper to me. You can never have too many A1 rifles.

I just picked this one up. Same forge marks

C is Colt. H is Harvey Aluminum.

Worth a couple Bens or more these days.

Would you guys agree that it appears unused?  No scratches or anything from parts install.  Or could it be refinished?

Colt.

You may want to post in the retro forum.

Slight wear at rear TD lug?

Isn't this the Retro forum?

There is a a little bit of raw metal showing in on the sharp edge of the rear take down lug.  But looks like storage wear, or some flashing removed, not use.

Post 1974 production A1 upper.

Personally Id keep it and build a 723 clone.

Is a 723 clone all that much different from an XM177 clone?

(still have not built out a Nodak lower for this or the M16A1 clone)

No, not really. You should probably just sell it.

Check the cam pin are inside the receiver.. refinished or not if it has been used there must be some wear there.

I don’t see the Colt proof mark in front of the ejection port.. in this case the receiver probably left colt as replacement part afaik..

About to point that out as well. Good catch.

Correct.  There is nothing in front of the port.  Just the primary forge codes.

I'm just going to hold onto it for now, until the desire for another A1 strikes.
