DI carriers get hot, piston carrier not so much, but do 9mm BCG get hot?

It's a blowback system so some gas has to be working its way back to operate the bolt.

Can someone with experience chime in and give me heat rating from 1 to 10 (1 being nothing and 10 being similar to the DI carrier.)

TIA

Dear OP......

This is how you can determine this all by yourself.

Get a laser type temperature measuring device.

Shoot 50 rds.....now measure the temp.

Then shoot 100 rds......measure the temp.

Keep going until you learn what you need to learn.

This isn't complicated, and you can easily answer your question yourself.

This is not GD.

If it’s not glowing does it really matter?

Because absolutely no one else here cares about bolt carrier temps.

Yeah, OK, I'll not do that.

It does, I am trying to find an alternative carrier key setup for a stripped 9mm BCG.

Um, no gas is working its way back except for what unintentionally leaks past the cartridge case.

No hot gases are delivered to the bolt like a DI operated gun with a gas cylinder in the carrier.  This is what makes a DI carrier hot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml9tpzQ5BWs On a DI, the “piston” is in the carrier, so yeah it gets hot, just like a piston gun gets hot at the piston.

A blowback, as the name implies, just pushes the bolt open from pressure generated as an opposite reaction to the bullet.  Maybe some heat transfer for that millisecond the fired case base presses against the bolt and perhaps some heat transfer while the bolt is in battery touching a hot barrel, but that’s it.

What are you looking for in an alternative carrier key?  In a blowback 9 all the key does is keep the bolt from rotating, “holding” it upright.  The key also provides a surface for the operating handle to work against.  No gasses are directed to it, there’s no gas tube.

So you asked about BCG temps.

I shared how you  can easily find out what the actual temps are, and can control the test parameters.

Yet...you choose to not measure the temps yourself,  to find out the info that you want to know.

Brilliant strategy.

Just your attitude alone would not make me listen to any advice from you.

This is  a discussion forum right?  Meant ask questions that other have experience with, right?

So using your logic, you'll disregard the best and most accurate advice because it's not presented to you on a sliver platter.

Got it.

Get off your high horse.  Your answer was certainly not the best.  Never asked for specific temps, just an approximation.

The more I think about it...... your suggestion is complete crap.  Added expense, wasted time and ammo.

Got my answer with a simple posting of the question.

1st...I don't own a horse, let alone one that gets high.

2nd...asking folks stuff on the interweb may not always get the results you want/need.
Sometimes you have to actually do things yourself.
That usually brings a sense of accomplishment and pride.

3rd...a $10 laser thermometer from Amazon or harbor freight isn't a huge capitol expense.

4th....9mm ammo is like 23 cents a round, and shooting is fun....so who wouldnt want to send rounds downrange in the name of science.
Hell....a clever guy would create a YouTube video while he does the testing.
And then he could share the results for all to see and learn from.

But hey....you do it your way.

Regular AR bolts don’t really get that hot.

I can dump a few mags full auto and swap bolts and they’re just a little warm. Easily handleable

So you did do it the way I suggested, even though you said it was crap/waste of time/ammo.

And you did get results, but you weren't happy enough with those results, and figured you would just ask people to chime in with a random heat score from 1-10.

Is a 1 supposed to be 60 degrees Fahrenheit...or 15 degrees Celsius  ???

Is 10 supposed to be 100 degrees Celsius or 200 degrees Fahrenheit ???

You also didn't bother sharing any of those results here on the board....I would guess it's because you came to the conclusion that none of this makes much sense.

I believe this concludes  the op's thread.

Ok, troll.  Did not do a single thing you suggested.

Actually the threaded ended WITH swHOMatt post, but you are too ignorant admit another member had a better answer.

Clearly you have no idea what a troll is/does.....seeing as I did provide reasonable suggestions to help you find the answer you wanted.

And calling people names like troll isn't a very nice way to behave on the forum.

Trolling is trying to get an emotional response and that is exactly what you trying to do.

Did not asked for a suggestion, I asked for people's opinions and or experience.

Your first post was full of attitude and you have kept the line in all your posts.

So yeah, you are trolling this thread.
