How do you guys mark your magazines? (Page 1 of 3)

I just bought a bunch of Center and ??? 30 rounders off of the EE. I've never had enough mags to bother marking them, and I know a lot of people mark theirs with their initials and numbers. I was thinking of painting my first, middle and last initial over sequentially ordered numbers, using this stencil pattern.
Any one ever do this? pics of yours you marked? |
Yellow paint pen for the mags I use for classes and range use. My back up stash of SHTF mags just stay all warm an cozy in a ammo can, so I haven't felt the need to mark them.
Been considering something like you are proposing so I can keep track of my ever growing stash. I've also seen a lot of guys running colored tap, which is not a permanent modification. |

I use an Elmer's brand white paint pen. I really don't have a reason to mark them, but I did just for the hell of it. It does help if I have a mag problem, then the mag is identified so I know which one needs attention or needs to be tossed. If I were in a situation where my mags may be mixed in with other people's mags I would stencil my initials on them. Here is an old pic of one of my mags:

Shorties are 70gr PMAGs are 68gr Black rubber bottoms 64gr Tan rubber bottoms 60gr Everything else is 55gr Going to number the floor plates this weekend. Stencil is the grill/grate off my pond fountain pump filter system... Expanded metal works in a pinch. Even used rubber anti slip pads from the tool box drawers. Pics later. |

I'm not creative. Only have about 50 mags, but that was enough to want a simple and fast way to mark them all.
Stencil and black or tan spray paint depending on mag color. First & last initial on one side of mag. Number on other side of mag. Nice & easy. I know which mags are mine and can track a bad mag. My malfunction practice mag (follower binds inside on a weld) has XX and NO stenciled all over. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

If you clean the surface with some denatured alcohol it sticks nicely. I number my metal mags in order and my PMAGs in order.. if they are new in wrap I don't even touch them until I'm ready to bring them into service. I mark my Glock mags the same way.

Never bothered marking my magazines. However, I used to go caving all the time and had lots of gear, for both horizontal and vertical caves.
We would get called out for rescues. After we got there, the gear we thought might be able to be used to extract a caver, was put into a stash and a quartermaster type person, would check it in issue it and then get it back after the rescue was done. so we had to have some way to mark ropes, pulleys and the other assorted gear put in there. So I used colors. I had different colored tapes. My color scheme was white/red/white. One strip of white tape, one strip of red tape and one strip of white tape. A total of maybe one inch in width. Sp the tape had to be cut into pieces and then in half. Others saw what I did and liked it. Now, I can no longer cave, but some parts of my experience can work with other things. If you want to be aware of what you have but not want to be too visible. Just a small piece of tape, instead of going around something, should suffice for you. Maybe a dot, which is easily seen by you but not others would work. Me, I don't like the idea of having different paint colors on my mags, unless it is that tape that can't be seen more than a few feet away. so painting, different colored tape or even different colored mags even. Do what you want to do and have safe fun in doing it. Bill |
