I couldn't find any pistol mag storage bins that were compact and inexpensive, so I made my own. I store some mags on magnetic holder on the back of the safe's door (small safe). The rest have to go somewhere. This solution makes them easily accessible and carry around as a unit. Total cost for making two bins was less than $10. The plastic bins are from Walmart and are sold as "card bins." They're about 5x7x4 high measure on the outside. They have small handles on each side. The dividers are made from 1/8" steel welding rod available at any home center store. The rods are held in place with press-on speed nuts. Locate the divider rods to fit your needs and if you need to change, just drill some new holes and relocate the rods. Each bin will hold about 18 9mm mags. Enjoy.

no pic no care

need pics

AFA as the magnets holding the mags, sound like a bad idea iif the mags get magnetized they will collect metal fouling and possible jam.

This thread needs some pics.  Here are my home made mag holders.  All made from scrap wood.  The pistol mag rack holds everything from 9mm to 45acp to 22lr, ruger 22/45, p320, 1911, glock 26, glock 41, and even the glock 33rd stick mags.  I don't own a single simiauto pistol who's mags wont fit in it.  Even oddballs like the ruger american 308 ones fit in it well.  I ended up making about 5 of them at a time and it goes really fast and each one costs about $0.50 to make.

The AK racks hold the mags upright so they take up much smaller footprint.  Similarly, I made about 10 of these at a time and it went really fast and cheap.

The "other" mag box I'd just gotten a new dado stack and got fancy with the box joints.  Obviously overkill and not the best use of time.  But it was fun.

The spring tension inside the mags is several times as much as the force of gravity.  If letting them rest on the feed lips would hurt them, then the spring tension constantly pushing outward would tear them to bits.  And actually, I don't think most of the feed lips make contact with anything.  The pistol mags are resting on the tip of the bullet thats sticking out of them.

I chose to store them upside down on purpose.  Right side up, they'll collect a bunch of dust and dirt.  Upside down keeps crap from getting into them and causing them to bind and misfeed.

they are loaded, they are sitting on the cartridges, not the feed lips

the worst thing about a mag ban nobody talks about, having to store your know insanely valuable mags in the safe taking up space where there should be more guns...

I would happy with good mag storage solutions for the closet.   Nobody makes a crate or plastic ammo box that lets you store 30 rd mags upright in a size closer to a 30 cal tin vs. the 50.  The 50 just holds too many.

The ones on the market use an insane amount of padding.  They aren't super valuable yet and I don't need to throw them out of a helicopter at 100 feet either...
