I function checked my BCG by removing it and placing it face down on a table. The bolt collapsed closed showing worn gas rings.   I bought a set to install and realized that there are 2 sides to the ring.  Does the side with the beveled edge face foreword or the sharp edge face foreword?  Maybe it doesn’t matter and I’m splitting hairs.

Also- my old rings must have been way worn.  Everything fits together much more snugly.

If you use oil in the wrong places you can wear out the gas rings very quickly as carbon builds in the gas system of the BCG. Do not get oil inside the gas system!
