Canvas vs nylon cases.

When was each type issued? Was one service more likely to have one over the other?

I'm assuming the canvas cases are older.

When I came into country (VN) I was issued a Colt marked bipod in a canvas sheath which held the cleaning rod and a central pouch on the outside of the sheath for solvent, patches, and LSA.  Very useful if you were in a fighting hole at night and using the British night fire method.  I "forgot" to turn mine in and still use it though I tend to stay out of fighting holes these days.
