Can anyone recommend some lights for mounting on a rifle? Price range $100-150. Support for a pressure switch would be nice. Rechargeable via USB would be a huge plus.
Surefire? Fenix? Something else? Not sure if there's a new hotness I should be paying attention to. I really like the looks of the Fenix PD36R (it's rechargeable and has a HUGE battery), but it doesn't seem to support a pressure switch; it's not supposed to be a rifle light, I guess. Their TK20R/26R seem decent for a rechargeable weapon lights, maybe support pressure switches, but don't have a setting between 350 lumens and 1000+, which seems like a huge gap. Suggestions? |

I don't think you're getting into a US made light with a pressure switch for $150.
Streamlight has options in that range with the pressure switch. |

Streamlight HL-X. 1,000 lumens/27,600 candela. Runs on CR123A, their recharge-via-USB SL-B26, or any 186650. Comes with clicky tailcap or pressure switch. Can also use a Scout series mount.

Olight Odin is a nice light, but I'd much rather save up and buy a Modlite PLHv2. Buy once, cry once.

Quoted: Just curious as to why you prefer the Rail Mount 2 over the HL-X? I prefer the HL-X due to its dual fuel design (cr123's or 18650) and its 1,000 lumen vs the inferior 625 lumen. View Quote I have both and the Rail Mount 2 is quite a bit smaller than the HL-X. The latter is YUUUUGE. so maybe that's why @lew prefers it? But I agree with you, the ability to use 186650 and the way more lumens and candela make the HL-X a winner for me also. |

Crimson Trace CWL 202 is 900 lumen and the price $94.99 on OpticsPlanet. Also batteries for life. Its a light that I am looking hard at right now. I am also looking at the Streamlight HLX. The Streamlight is about twenty bucks more. I need to get at least two lights right now and my budget is tight. I think I can afford buying either one of those lights and still have some money to finish off my AR projects.
Crimson Trace also makes a 500 lumen version. Its the CWL 102. |

View Quote Size and weight. I put RM2 on guns I am looking to keep light and don't use much where CR123 power isn't an issue. My daily work gun is HL-X with USB rechargable 18650 which I am training with/using daily. |

I will throw in you can easily find a Made in USA Inforce WMLx for around $100 on the EE pretty easy.
No pressure switch, but simple push button with 800 lumens and 2x CR123 |

Big fan of the HL-X without the pressure pad. The clicky tailcap works just fine mounted 10:00-11:00 on 11.5" and longer handguards.

I almost bought an HL-X. It seems like an excellent choice if you insist on a tape switch. I went with a Streamlight PolyTac X USB instead, and paid $45 for it. No tape switch, 600 lumen, 11,485 candela, 4.9 ounces. This unfortunately means it won't be visible from space, which I know is a typical user requirement. Keep in mind that lights that scare your cat will be dimmer than a birthday cake after an hour of use, while the PolyTac X has a 3.5-hour run time on high.

I'm no expert, but based on this thread I recently ordered and received two HL-Xs. That's how I know. |

For your price point, I would watch the EE for an M series Surefire. I see the M951 on there often for around $100. Add a switch and you're into the setup for $170 ish. (Depending on switch and switch mount)

I spent a small fortune on a Cloud Defensive REIN. I learned the hard way that runtime and weight (in that order) are more important to me than sheer light output. If I ever have to use a light for more than an hour before I'm able to swap out the battery, I'd rather have my cheapo PolyTac X with its 3.5-hour runtime, because at that point, it will have started outperforming the REIN. |

Prefer SF, but for the price Op mentions I'm also going to throw the Inforce WML in there.
Have 2 of the gen 2's and they have served me great so far. |

Crimson trace here. Put through the ringer n runs like a champ still n during

On the differences between the Streamlight RM2 and the HL-X, there are a few I don't see mentioned here.
The HLX has a more intense hotspot in the center with a sharp edge that seperates the center corona from the spill. It WILL throw more light down range which I think is absolutely necessary for trying to ID targets within the normal range you would be using a weapon light on a rifle outdoors. Also, the tape switch on the HL-X is momentary on with pressure with a secondary button that is on/off toggle. The RM2 does NOT have a appreciable center corona and the optics are going to throw a LOT more light to the side and decrease the effective range, but give you more light on the spill, which is excellent for IDing targets over a much wider area close up, like inside a house. Also note, the pressure switch for the RM2 toggles the light on/off as it seems the internal circuitry of the light is acting as the switch and only uses the "end cap" or the pressure pad to send a "activate" signal. |

The Streamlight Pro Tac RM-1 single battery is "bright enough" more efficient, smaller, and priced right at OP's $100 point.

I have the TLR RM1, the Protac RM1, Protac RM2, and the HLX.
All good to go. I use the clicky cap and mount left side (2 o’clock looking at muzzle) on short rifles 10-12.5”. I use the tape switch and mount the light at 10 o’clock right side, on VERY short PCC/SBR (5-8”), or on longer rifles where I extend the light out from the Handguard. HLX on longer rifles, RM1 on HD. |

Occasionally the HLX pops up on Amazon for $99. Best deal around for a rifle light.

I have 2 of the Crimson Trace CWL-102 500 Lumen weapon light kits and love them. Free batteries and new hardware under warranty, no questions asked. Extreme value for the price. |

I didn't realize this thread was still going, oops.
I ended up picking up an HL-X on sale a month or two ago. I just have it mounted at 9 o'clock with the tail switch, currently. Feels solid, so far. |
