hey do i need to oil my barrel on my ar-15 i just got 1 so IDK

You skipped the very important part of "After removing the firing pin retaining pin, turn the bolt carrier on its rear to cause the firing pin to drop loose"

People depend on this manual!

Seems like a lot of noobs here so I'll ask, I guess my 9mm just right carbine isn't truly an AR15. Would you know if this field strip would work on it?

The only pic I see is the one with the bolt, and the firing pin being removed after key is pulled out.

I just checked and the pictures weren't in my cache, and they all load for me.

Thanks for the write up. Helped me learn my way around my new 6920 a lot faster. I did like the other guy and printed the pics fullsize, laminated them and put them in my cleaning box.

Brand new ar15 member and owner here and I read the post. Loved the pics with directions...

At the risk of getting voted off the island, any chance that a similar post can be done detailing how to reassemble the AR? especially the BCG etc?

Great step X step guide. My question is that my rear take down pin does not just push out. Being new to the ar platform, how do I get it pushed out? The book says that on some models that there is a wedge between the upper and lower to stop any movement between the two. I have a Colt M4 5.56 brand new.

Gently tap it out with a punch and hammer. Also, after it disengages from the lug on the upper receiver, it will be retained by the lower receiver.

Just used this for cleaning my BCG for the first time. Was surprised how dirty it was after only about a hundred rounds!

One thing that wasn't clear in the pictures was which way the extractor needed to be pointed when you reinsert the bolt back into the carrier. Maybe it only goes one way and I just guessed right but I wasn't sure until looking at pictures elsewhere of the BCG.

Of course thinking about it now, I also could have looked at the ARFCOM logo. :)
