Received my Colt Gau the other day and wanted to post a few pics. Overall, I am very pleased  with the fit and finish. Everything is nice and tight. No sear block which is a plus. The sling I added. The rifle came with a 20 round mag, manual, and standard sling. I am by no means an expert on these weapons. So please point out any inaccuracies.

Ok, here go’s:  it doesn’t shoot full auto, the barrel is not 11.5 inches, and the moderator does not suppress the sound!  Just kidding,  you got a great carbine!  They even stamped C MP C on the bottom of the barrel!  The serial numbers are also the same as the originals except for the T. Wish I could get one like yours!  I live in California and because it is a Colt, and says AR-15 on the side, it’s illegal in this state. Enjoy your new purchase!

Very nice OP, but would look better with a 20 round mag.

I’ve heard that the barrel is 14.5 and the moderator is a slip over design. Can you confirm that barrel extends into the moderator?

Barrel is 14.5 and the moderator does partially slip over the barrel. The barrel stops about an inch below the flashider ports.

My research showed the originals were black.

They were almost black, made in 69/70

I think ppl over do the grey bs. I have original parts/uppers spanning 62-86 and the late 60’s early 70’s parts, a lot of parts were very very dark.

Same with some early shit, original XM16E1 transferable sold recently and it was black.

This is true.  The portion of the barrel that is hidden by the moderator is not parkerized... just bare steel.  Also the rings on the barrel where the front sight base mounts are bare steel (barrel parkerized after it was assembled).

It looks like you even have a very early serial number. The serial numbers for the GAUs started somewhere after 908869 which was an XM177E2.
