Ironically enough mine is completely broken down in need of some serious inspiration. I may build it back up after I finish my Mk13. Debating on replacing the KAC RIS with FF RAS carbine and getting an ACOG to direct mount.

I got more than enough on my plate right now, though. I'll just keep watching what you and everyone else is throwing up until I can build it back how I want it

I've got an IDF-ish rifle just like this.  16" pencil/carbine gas with the skinny handguards.  But I'm thinking of pulling my 7" Larue Quad rail off of a spare 11.5" upper and moving it to the A1/C7...

This is helping me visualize.

A1/C7 + quad is the best combo. After running KAC RIS for a while and now planning on jumping to FF, I'm shocked it's not more prevalent. Not as high speed as some would like, but it has a place.

Idk man, trends are moving towards ultra high optics, accessory development still includes 1913 rails..

Bare tubes are sick, but unfortunately are basically single use items. If you ever tear it down it's difficult to get it timed the exact same way twice. Only go down that road if you're absolutely sure you don't intend to remove barrel nut/tube mount, or do so before you start chopping up the tube.

I agree, but it's difficult to argue against freedom of options with a flattop. You can mount a detachable carry handle. Not dogging the A1/C7 at all, I love them. I'd have to be in a really tough spot to sell mine even though it's been sitting for a while.

Too easy to argue actually. A detachable handle adds more weight and significantly defeats the purpose if one is seeking a lightweight and very handy carbine. If I want a flattop, well I've already got those too. A handy lightweight rifle is a tool for a certain job that doesn't weigh as much as my SBR for HD or even close to my SHTF rifle when on the road. My C7 topped rifle was assembled to be something I could easily sling and not be bothered while on my property.

I dragged this baby out of the safe this weekend.  Basically, I wanted to do an  AR that was all M4 except for the pencil barrel.

It's a laser cut number, 13629. I'm not up on what it means, maybe a Colt part number. The short length makes it really easy to handle in close quarters.

Don't know yet as I haven't shot any 223, but I'll find out soon. I'll need to make sure nobody else is in the booth.

I put a CMMG 22 kit in it...

...and use it to shoot squirrels out of the almond trees from our upstairs bedroom window.

I have another one with a 14.5 inch barrel that is otherwise identical. I threw a 4x Brownells Retro scope on that one.
