Using Aero Precision receiver set PSA handguard. Is it possible to have a build that cost 2k?
I'm doing a trade with a friend and says his AR is 2k.

Yea.....no.  MOE stock and grip about $50.  Upper and lower $150.  Bolt?  LPK $50.  Trigger?  Don't know what barrel in there but unless it is Proof Research, maybe figure $300 at most.

Is he including the optic?  Not really sure what it is from the pics, but not likely worth $1,000+

What are the details on the barrel, trigger and bcg?

Assuming none of the three are anything special then I don't see it being anywhere close to $2k.

I wouldn't spend $2,000 for a home build regardless.

No way. Even if it had a good barrel, trigger, and bolt, and came with the optic. Sounds like “your friend” might be verbiage you reconsider using. He’s trying to rip you off, or he got ripped off himself.

I can’t think of any high end nickel plated triggers off hand. BCM, PSA, Anderson, AT3, there are a few nickel plated triggers and they all suck ass and cost well under $100. Not to say there aren’t, but I don’t know of any, especially using a factory cast trigger profile.

I’m betting PSA kit on Aero lower and he’s trying to rip you off for about $1000. $1400 in his favor if he’s not including the optic. Even if it has a good barrel and bolt there’s a lot of “absolute cheapest possible” options going on there.

I would say no... It's definitely possible to have a build cost 2k and well beyond, but that doesn't seem like the case here. Without a list of the parts (Fire Control Group, Barrel, BCG, etc...) I wouldn't be able to say definitely how much the rifle should run, but from the looks it's definitely no where near 2k. Unless Eugene Stoner signed the lower or something lol (just kidding, that would be WAY more than 2k lol).

I doubt that's a Hiperfire with a Sandcutter carrier and LMT enhanced bolt with a Noveske barrel. But maybe.

Even then...might not quite be $2k.

Ask him for his build sheet, OP.  Then we can truly pick it apart.

Indeed.

Maybe he got overcharged building it during the height of the pandemic or something. Even if that includes the optic I'm not seeing it.

And that magazine with skull subtracts value

He may have spent a ludicrous amount of money on that cerakote job too.

Looks like an Aimpoint PRO red dot.

He probably paid a lot for the paint job.

But, no.

You can get a really nice Bravo Company gun for less, brand new.

I can’t see the pictures but seems like the guy is trying to blatantly rip you off. Cut ties with this crook, he’s not your friend.

He may not be trying to screw you. He may have got screwed and legitimately thinks that's it's value. Either way, hard pass. That's not a $2k gun. Take your $2k and build the gun that suits your needs.

Well, something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. So, if you pay $2000 for it you will prove him right.

If it is a parts gun, ask for an itemized parts list with prices. If you can get the parts on the parts list for less money maybe it isn't all that good a deal.

A lot of guys put parts guns together with parts gathered from sale prices. If everything on his list is retail or approaching retail, I would be skeptical.

If he provides a list it would be interesting to see it posted.

This could very well be, but that doesn't really translate to "value".  As we (who build instead of buy) all know, one cannot expect a 100% return on investment when it comes to personal appointments.

If your friend is a world renowned gunsmith who specializes in building AR15s it might be worth 2k.

Get a detailed parts list.  i can pretty much guarantee their is not even 1k in parts there.  He is getting you for about 1k even with a used Aimpoint pro included ($300-$350 used)

You can buy a really nice gun for 2k

What are you trading??

Best for getting most value out is to split upper and lower halves and sell separately
Second would max value but take longest and most work - part it out
Complete rifle less than sum of parts and then some - unless something happens (panic buying) or unless you find some other new sucker that just has to have that config

Unfortunately your images are broken so I can't see what is what or what else comes with.... but a $2k value of a parts gun better come with a dozen mags and a case or two of ammo.... or be made of real premium parts (national match type stuff... )
