Shooting good 5.56 ammo, not .223, I use a Tubb carbine action spring with an H2 buffer. I shoot primarily IMI, perfect for me.

I use a standard carbine spring with an H2 buffer with my 11.5" Colt HRT barrel.  It's been working great with just under 2k rounds.

for folks responding in this thread, what are you running on a 10.5"
-H2 + carbine spring?
-H3 + carbine spring?

My 10.5" Palmetto upper with standard carbine extension tube functions just fine with either a Spikes T2 or an "H" buffer.
Haven't tried anything heavier.
Edit: I use a standard carbine spring.

I have a 10.3 Colt and running a standard carbine spring with an H2 buffer.

I have a severe overgassed 12" PSA (FN) and I'm running a Sprinco red spring with an H3 in it.

Mine runs perfectly fine with the standard spring and H buffer. Just like it came stock.

Any quality AR15 should have at least an H or H2.

Spring wise I either run Sprinco Blue, Tubbs or Strike Industries Flat Wire...pick your poison.

My rule of thumb is H all the way down to 11.5....H2 10.5" or below.

AR10...H3 or PWS H4

I've got an overgassed PSA barreled 10.5", has run reliably for years with a ST-T2 and a standard spring, but is still overgassed. plan was to try an H2 or H3 in it.  Still want to upgrade the spring, but that will have to wait until later.

I went from a H buffer and standard spring in my Colt 11.5" to a H2 with the same spring and finally to a Geissele Super 42 H buffer/braided spring and it's now the smoothest shooting AR I've ever had. I'll be using the Super 42 in every future gun I can.

I have two 10.5 inch AR pistols, both run perfectly with H3 buffers and either a standard Damage USA spring or a Wolff XP spring.
