Not sure where on this forum is the best place to ask this?

I need some more USGI 50 ammo cans. Can be new for a good price or used as long as the used ones are in decent shape, i.e. not rusty, dented and have good gaskets. Not sure if there is a "go to" place for these or if someone's got a killer deal going for this right now?

If you live near a military base that conducts live fires they might have a DRMO to get rid of surplus cans for cheap. I've gotten most of my cans that way. Or you could look here ......

FPNI

Usually a code available and free shipping

I paid $85 shipped for six fat 50’s around Thanksgiving.

If you can’t find a code call and they may hook you up anyway.

Shipping is the killer on true surplus GI cans from most places.
Last ones I got were from AmmoCanMan off Amazon. About as cheap for a lot of three as I’d pay to get em from my local gun shop but AmmoCanMan’s were almost new condition, better grade than my local pickups.
AmmoCanMan also lists on eBay too last I looked.

I also have a few new cans like Blackhawks from big box stores, better than nothing but do not seal as well as even my old cans with dried up seals.

I know you specified metal 50 cal ammo cans.  I'm just presenting an alternative product

I've been buying the hell out of these:

https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/27266

I comes with 4 MTM RS100's for 223, 5.56mm or 300 BLK.  They sell for $4.50 each most places.  That's $18.00 worth of ammo boxes, which means your getting the MTM AC50 for $6.00

I also buy this for my wife's 380:

https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/27264

That said, US GI 50 cal cans hold more weight and stack higher than same size plastic ammo cans.

I have both, and can pick and choose which I use for what.....

IMHO and YMMV

That's the co. I was looking at before ordering from ACM. I was slightly disappointing in the cans I received from ACM (a little rougher then I was expecting for "Grade 1" cans) so I think I will give CAC's a try for my next order.

Right now I'm looking at long term storage boxes so I'll stick with the steel cans but I can see those being a good option for either reloaded ammo or range ammo? Do you have any pics of how well the ammo boxes fit into the ammo "can"? Can they be mixed and matched (say a couple 5.56 boxes with a couple of 9mm or 45acp boxes within the same "can")?

Thanks

In the Case-Gard AC50 ammo can I can fit 4 of their 100 round 223/5.56 boxes, and 2-100 round 9mm boxes in the same can, for a total of 600 rounds - 400-223 and 200-9mm.  Alternatively I can fit 6-100 round 9mm boxes and 2-100 round 223 boxes, for a total of 800 rounds.

I don't have any Case-Gard 45 acp boxes to check on fitment of those...

I just bought 3 fat 50 cans earlier today and got a shipping notice within a few hours, too.

Edit: Bought from ammocanman.com

Sportsman's Guide will do a buy one, get one free sale on their 3 packs.

I want to say they're like $59 for 3, which ends up being like $70-75 shipped for six.

I bought 6 40mm cans 2 months ago for $85 shipped to my house. Weighed 65lbs in 2 different boxes

What kind of condition are the cans from sportsman's guide in? They don't seem to say anything about it on their site.

I bought pallets of them from Gov Liquidation & now Gov Planet in all sizes imaginable. The pick up point is only 15 miles from my home. For some reason, they have not been releasing the pallet loads like they used to so they are harder to get. Be advised that they rarely come in as new condition due to being stored outside opened by Gov Planet instead of indoors out of the weather. Most are still in great shape though.

Shipping kills any deals possible due to the big stores have agreements with the carriers for bulk orders while it I try to ship them, they are way too expensive.

Check the Barrett online store. They use to sell ammo cans. When I worked there we would haul them out of there for $1 each. Over the years I probably ended up with 70-80 of them.
We started getting the 660rd cans from Olin. I bought around 8-10 of them for $5 each.

There used to be a small mountain of .50 cans at the back wall at Barrett.
