What are everyone's thoughts on 300 BLACKOUT AMMO?  I purchased some inexpensive ammunition on line for use at the range and it's not cycling well and several didn't fire the first time.  That ammo is:  300 AAC Blackout, 147 GR Winchester FMC....Real garbage it appears.

I purchased subsonic ammo at the range (so overpriced but all they had) and it worked great.  It is Magtech 300AAC 200gr FMJ.  No issues at all with this stuff.

So I'm looking for decent range ammo at a fair price and some top of the line stuff for deer and hogs.

Suggestions?

Just get the cheapest stuff you can for plinking...I have no idea why it wouldn't have worked for you. I'd just shoot steel case myself.

For top of the line, I'd say Barnes 110gr TAC-TX.

Sellier and bellot/ magtech subs are consistent for me and people I shoot with.
The local gun store/ range carries it for 11 or 12 bucks for 20 rounds.
We have been paying that price for years, so it's good value to us!

The best way is to reload your own though

Barnes for killing things.
S&B 200s for cheaper factory sub loads.
Still waiting on Wolf to drop....

Defensive supers? 110 Barnes has a pretty strong consensus.

Plinking ammo... have you only tried Winchester or have you done several brands? I’d start with Remington and whatever else you can find, see if its the gun, not the ammo.

Barnes 110gr tac-tx or fiocchi 125gr sst for killing things. (ETA: Both supers)

IDK what to shoot for plinking. Don't really plink with my 300

Should be dropping today on TSUSA.

ETA: Looks like they are gouging a bit.  Sad. I seen it listed before for $199/k unless that was a mistake.

For plinking I have been using Magtech First Defense 123gr and am pleased with it. Have also used Herters and PPU of same grain +/- with no issues. Have only shot less than 100 rounds of each type just to get an idea but I am pleased

I'm using the BCM 9in Upper and its mainly used for plinking and stays ready for HD use unsuppressed

But I also used this site for some info when looking to go the 300blk route Someones review of "best 300blk" ammo

Range time?  Whatever you can get, regardless of weight.

Serious time?
There are about a half-dozen rounds at the top of the list.

110gr Tac-Tx (Many people have Barnes...as do it.  But next time I will go with Wilson Combat's Tac-tx....it is loaded hotter)
110gr  Hornady Black Vmax (what I keep loaded up)
110gr Vosler Varmageddon
120gr (I can't remember the name...will have to look it up again.  Sig also makes an OK 120gr round)
125gr Fiocchi SST
194gr Lehigh Maximum Expansion (Subsonic)
(There are a few others that are solid, but the Tac-Tx and Vmax are probably the most common)

Interesting side notes:
1. The best .300blk rounds are on the "light for caliber" side, or subsonic.  There isn't much of anything above 125gr, and below 175grs.
2. The best supersonic rounds have plastic ballistic tips (Vmax/Varmageddon, Tac-tx, SST), or at least quite pointy tips.

The best rounds seem to be at near peak efficiency already.  You try to go heavier, and between the heavier bullet and powder loss, the round falls off of a cliff.

I plink with 110 V Max and Barnes 110 Tac Tx for killing. Since same POI at 100 yards, can use both for SHTF scenario.

110 Tac TX, 110 VMAX

Those are the only two sub MOA factory loads I have found supersonic.

190 SubX is tbe only sub MOA subsonic I have found.

110 Nosler Varmageddon is crap. Like M193 level accuracy. Dont waste the money... its expensive too.

Everything 147 is crap .308 FMJ bullets that are 3 MOA just like they are in .308 loads. Worst 300 BLK ammo is .308 147 grain loadings.
