Just curious what people have been stacking lately given the ammo prices!
Been focused on M193 myself, but starting to wonder if I should be focusing on M855 considering I’ve mainly got SBRs... |
193 my friend. No need for trash. Not much other than a 1978 soviet helmet that 855 will/may win on.
I have a ton of Q3131. I also have a plentiful supply of green tip.
193.
I do have a pile of 855 that I just had to have awhile back for reasons I can't remember. |
M193... there are very few "M855 / SS109" rounds that still catch my eye ( RUAG )... and Fed. XM855 isn't one of them.
I put back a bit from when MidwayUSA had it pretty cheap... the kicker is that the range I am a member of does not allow steel core ammo.
So I can't get a good zero with the M855 or most of my 7.62x39 ammo. All I can do it spitball it by guesstimating a zero with something of the same weight. My AKs have aftermarket rear sights so it really does make a difference not doing an actual zero! I'd love to have some M855A1 though. |

starting my mini stock pile of ammo,
wish I had more scratch to spare |
A bit of both, but if you are not stacking Wolf Gold and making a cool ammo fort, you are as wrong as two boys fucking.
Why limit yourself to an FMJ round?
I'm stocking up on AMAX in 7.62mm and 5.56mm. |
Primarily stacking GECO M193 5.56
Also stacking Magtech 77gr OTM 5.56 whenever fund allows |
While I have a couple thousand rounds of M855, I haven't bought any new supply in a couple years.
All I buy now is wolf gold and who ever has the best deal on cheap M193 bulk packs. Any brand, I'm not picky. Now if M855 was cheaper, the roles may reverse but currently I'm not going to pay extra for it. |
I bought lots of M855 before I learned more about ammo. If I had to do it over, I'd go with M193.
That said, 64gr. Gold Dot is what I stack deep these days. Nearly all my rifles love it. |

193 here + wolf gold + golden tiger 7.62 x 39 + that Korean 7.62x51 + American Eagle 147 grain stuff
Stashed away are the 420rd ammo box with stripper clips etc. Good for storage. A few dozen cases of dis n dat. Projectiles in ammo cans; there seems to be about 60lbs to the can X dozens. I'm more concerned with pistol ammo, 45acp and such. As to 22lr...........NEVER AGAIN IN MY LIFETIME

M193 guy here...
That CBC stuff that was SE Asian surplus that came down the pipe recently is just awesome ammo, and packaged amazingly... |
Bought a bunch of the IMI 193 and 855 that was on sale over the past few weeks. At roughly 25 cents a round the deal was too good to pass up.

I have about 14K M193 put away with some 855, I only buy steel case now becuase thats all I really shoot.

Well, PSA has their Federal XM193 420 rd in Ammo Can on Stripper Clips on sale for $129.99 and free shipping, so I just bought a few of those.
If you subtract about $10 for the ammo can, and $21 for the rebate, you're down to just below $.24/round! Couldn't pass it up. Now, to keep my eye out for some last minute sales on Federal XM855. I have some PMC X-Tac 62gr green tip, but figured if I can find some Federal XM855 for around $.25 after rebate, I might as well do it! |
I have equal amounts of both. I really only shoot the 193 though.

For range ammo, 855 62 grain is a closer zero to what I use for defense ammo, I usually use either 62 Fusion MSR, 64 Gold dot or 77 grain TMK

Fell into the trap of 855 but have been stacking 193 for the past year or so.

For me m193 is more accurate than M855. So thats why I stack 193

For me m193 is more accurate than M855. So thats why I stack 193 View Quote I've tried IMI, PPU, and Federal M855, and they are all inaccurate out of all my 5.56 rifles. Currently, I only have AE 50gr Varmint, Geco M193, and Magtech 77gr OTM. I only buy these 3 simply b/c those are proven to be 1MOA -1.35MOA capable in almost all of my 5.56 rifles. As long as these are available, I don't think I will buy other brands of ammo... I'm too lazy to re-zero all my rifles... |

Quoted: Alright, someone has got to explain to me the issue with 855?! I thought it was great ammo for 1:7 short barreled rifles and is what our military shoots? View Quote But the 855 that I have shot has not been as accurate as the AE and Wolf Gold 55 grain. (Honestly, it all probably shoots better than I do). |
Okay, so it sounds like an accuracy issue for why people don't prefer it. I can understand that. I'm still feeling like I need to grab the 1200 rounds of XM855 in those 120 round plastic ammo cans if I can get them for $.25/rd.
I guess I could just save that money and grab more Speer 64gr Gold Dot, and start going that route for heavier ammo. I wish they made it with brass though... |
Midway has 855 on sale. 450 for $119, IIRC? IN 30 rd boxes.

Quoted: Why no love for the XM855? View Quote PSA has it on sale with the rebate from Federal right now for the same price as XM193. PMX M855 is probably some of the most accurate I've messed with. I hated the stuff when I was enlisted and don't like it any better now. |

Quoted: Not very accurate. Not very good terminal performance. Shoved down the throat of too many in a very abusive manner by Army brass. Expensive. Shall I go on? Quoted: Good to know...yeah, I haven’t had any issues with the PMC, but I also haven’t shot a ton of it. You have any issue when it comes to shooting 193 out of short barreled rifles or 1:7 twist rifles? View Quote |

Quoted: One of my rifles HATES it (855) from an accuracy perspective but I guess it is still minute of man... I haven't tried it in my red dot rifle at 100 yards, maybe it shoots it better. View Quote I just meant it does better regarding terminal ballistics than its given credit for and does pretty well on a variety of light barriers and does well on certain types of body armor like UHWMPE. Heres a test in ordnance gel at 350m compared to 77gr OTM..nothing to sneeze at by any standards. Its put literal truckloads of people in the dirt over the years and if its available at a good price it's not a bad thing to buy especially if you have a 20" barrel in the lineup. 5.56 RazorCore Vs M855 @LRRP52 says its g2g and I trust his opinion on the matter implicitly. |
