Man I can't find one to save my life to replace the cracked one on my gun.

Are they that hard to find?

There's some on ebay and AR15sport but, they both want $20 or more. Seems a little high to me.

Assuming trapdoor style buttpad, I think I might actually have a spare. If you don't mind take off parts, let me look once I get home. If I can find it it's yours if you want it.

A1 is trapdoor, everything before is solid rubber.

A2 is the same as A1 except it has checkering across the entire plate, and later they switched from a metal door to a polymer one.

No.

A1's had solid rubber buttplates for several years before the trapdoor came along. The trapdoor was an improvement that was introduced on the A1 model. Gun magazines erroneously reported for years the trapdoor was on the A1 model beginning on day one of production.

Numrich has had new in package A1 buttplates for years listed as A2, but if you check the part number on the package it will show it is an A1 part.

I got mine as used stock from numrich. They fit perfectly on my A1 stock and we're actually a bit wide on my A2. Had to trim one down with a razor blade to properly match the A2 contour.

I’m talking about introduction, not overlap.

Just be sure to keep the A1 and A2 trapdoors in the appropriate buttplates. They are a little different.

No. The stock's bodies are made differently from each other.

There are at least 2 types of Type E buttplates as well.

I have both:

Type E normal has a hard, glass nylon (I think) plate.

Type E soft has a rubber or elastomer butt that is much more comfortable.

The only hard one to find is the soft rubber A1 trapdoor butt plate.  Only used for a short period of time by the US military.

JUst going to drop a note about the second link to the trapdoor here. Although it has an A2 style pictured, the two I just received are A1 style.

Ordered two of them got them today and both are to narrow at spots on multiple A1 stocks like the new in the package ones I bought. Have not tried them on an A2 to see if they fit it better.

Yeah, the replacement A1 butt plates have slight differences in the profile from the ones you see on butts assembled at the factory. There will be a slight lip visible on the edges when they're installed.

They're not wrong. Just replacement contract parts that meet Gov specs. I know that this kind of imperfection makes OCD Retro guys completely lose their shit, but they were in the Army supply system and used in service, so they are correct parts.

Plate from a Colt kit on the left, GI replacement plate purchased from Numrich on the right.
