Looks like AAC is now making 168gr and 175gr SMK, as well 168 BTHP and 178 BTHP "Match" .308 ammo. Has anyone had a chance to try them out and see how good they are compared to FGMM versions? |
|
Quoted: I haven't bought or tried the match ammo, but I did buy a few boxes of the 308 150gr "Sabre Blade Black Tip" (polymer/ballistic tip). Great price for a poly tipped 308 round. I will shoot some this month comparing to some other 308 I have. I also need to compare the Sabre Blade Black Tip 5.56 75gr vs my Hornady 75gr OTM. I bought a few boxes of the 5.56 at the same time as the 308. https://carolinafirearmsforum.com/index.php?attachments/aac_308win_150gr_bladeblacktip-lengths-post-jpg.676204/ View Quote @NC-rifle you appear to have tried to link a photo from another forum. I have tried in the past to upload photos to this forum, and never could get it to work. I gave up.
The "Insert image" icon asked for a URL, and I see no way to upload the pic. |

tag for interest....the AAC offerings across the board look interesting

I’ve got some of the 175gr stuff I hope to test out this weekend.

Definitely curious. Most people have had great luck with the .223. Not me, but most people But I have been VERY impressed with the 6.5 CM at any price, let alone at the price it’s at.

I bought 10 boxes of their 147g,or was it 150g stuff from PSA after a thread on here about it. I haven't tried it yet, though.

i got some 168gr and 150gr black tip to try. Probably next week before I can test. will be in a 16" DD V5

Quoted: I tested out the 175smk in a .308 bolt gun I’d put together, so not an AR, but this stuff shot very well. Aside from the first rd hitting low right and opening up the group, all groups were under .76moa, with an average of .646moa for 20rds fired. The barrel has previously been ran with FGMM 168’s, so it may have needed 1-2 shots to season in to the new ammo. Overall, I am very happy with this level of precision for the price. I’ll get velocity data when I’m not racing against the rain. https://i.imgur.com/KTwfZ9U.jpg View Quote Very good groups. Thank You for sharing ! |

Tried some of the 9mm today, maybe have hard primers a tad but shot well. Accuracy seemed good as well, I’ll snag some of their 308 for sure to try!

After my first disappointing try with the AAC Saber Blade Black Tip 150gr; I took a quick trip to the range yesterday, Oct 17. All at 100 yards, 65 deg F day.
I did a 5 shot group (2 in same hole) with Winchester 7.62x51mm 175gr Sierra OTM, 2.0" group (1" side to side). My hold was marginal. Then after cooling the barrel, a 5 shot group with ACC Sabre Blade Black Tip .308 150gr, 2.0" group. Then 5 minutes later a 3 shot group at a Big Foot target, 1.6" group. It is what it is, that is my hold. Better then the first day. I am sure others could shoot this ammo better. So now I believe this is good ammo. Especially for the price of a polymer, ballistic tip. |

I ordered 2 boxes of the 168 smk, they shipped today so we will see soon.

Got the back in stock email on 150 FMJ so bought 4 boxes to try out.

Which of their 6.5cm ammo were you shooting? Bolt or gas gun? Thanks in advance. This was with an Sig Cross bolt gun. While not a true precision rifle it’s always been good for .75 or so with ELD factory ammo. I shot a box of each AAC offering and it did best with the soft points with a 5-shot of about .8ish MOA. The Sabers or whatever shot the loosest @ 1.5ish, the other ones did around 1 MOA. For the price I’m very happy and if I didn’t have a box of ELD-Ms left over I’d be using those soft points for hunting, and when I’m out of those that’s my plan. $1/rd for soft points that are consistently sub-MOA is a steal. But each rifle shoots differently so YMMV and all that. |

Even AAC/PSA has raised the prices lately...
The AAC 308 WIN 150gr Soft Point now at $0.85/round is more expensive than the Saber 150gr polymer/ballistic tip I bought in Sep at $0.80/round. And the 150gr FMJ is now $0.72/round, and was $0.65/round. Still good prices for good ammo. Pick the bullet for the job you want to do. |

Fired 40rds of the 150gr FMJ’s. Solid, shot as steel, so no real accuracy test.

Quoted: Shot today, AAC 175’s with a ‘10 era 16” OBR. The first group was off target, and I forgot to snap a picture of it. It was like the middle group shown. The top group only has 3 or 4rds. I forgot that the Hensoldt has CCW turrets, so I sent the first shot of that group well off of the target! Not my best shooting, but man, this ammo performs! The standard deviations and average velocity across 20rds, with 10rds pulled from 2 separate boxes was very impressive. https://i.imgur.com/U8nFP32.jpg https://i.imgur.com/qvyiWU8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xWuiKQk.jpg https://i.imgur.com/p1iey9L.jpg https://i.imgur.com/git4Lfb.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2jYCbNe.jpg View Quote Little slow but those SDs and ES are great for any factory ammo. |

I’m really wanting to try the Sabre 150 polymer-tipped rounds when they are back in stock. Wondering how the terminal performance in deer will be compared to Accubond.

Dang, 175gr SMK for only $1.00/round. Christmas wiped out the gun fund, but may need to order 200.
I got 100 of their 5.56 TMKs to try against my black hills zero. Hoping they fly good for some longer range woodchuck killing this spring. |

Quoted: Quoted: ---------------------- At what distance were these excellent groups occurring ? 100yds Just to clarify, those groups were with the 175gr SMK load? Not their OTM? Asking because I'm about to pull the trigger on a case of the SMKs to try in my LaRue Siete. |

Just pulled the trigger on some AAC 150 Blade ammo.
Might be a bit before I get to the ranch to shoot it, but might hit up the local range this weekend or next just to try it out. They don't let you setup water jugs or ballistic gel to see about expansion, though, so that might have to wait. |

im waiting for the 2' of snow we just got last week to melt so i can shoot the 150gr FMJ and also see how my M5 likes their 175gr match kings. havnt heard of groups that peoples 16" m5 does with the 175SMK

Quoted: I managed to get out to the range to test a few ammo velocities using a 20" barrel. AAC 175 OTM I forgot to turn on the chrono for the first shot. https://i.imgur.com/TFg9iim.png AAC 175 smk https://i.imgur.com/bg70Bmh.png AAC 175smk after 45mins acclimating to ambient temps (garage ~50F to range 25-27F) https://i.imgur.com/e97hM7O.png FGMM 175smk, same temp. acclimation https://i.imgur.com/5L9SkZo.png I also tested the FGMM 168 Center Strike ammo. The std. dev./Extreme spread was better than the FGMM 175, but not as tight as the AAC ammo in the limited shots fired. The AAC std. dev. and extreme spread have been very consistent with the multiple lots I've tested. A novice handloader would likely struggle to get velocity numbers as consistent as I've seen. View Quote Thanks for sharing. I'm planning to order some AAC .308 & 6.5 ammo soon to test in my LaRue rifles. How did their OTM perform, group wise, compared to their SMK load? I'm torn on which to order, as I'm typically a Sierra projo fan. |

For the .308, I have limited rounds downrange for the OTM. Based on the single group of the OTM I fired, the SMK version has produced better groups in the rifles I’ve tested it in overall. Every rifle is different; YMMV |

Anyone do more testing with the 200gr Black Tip?
Curious if this would be a good wood chuck load for the tOBR. |
