Lately there has been several comments on the Easy Jig Gen 2, I thought I would throw out a few thoughts comparing them.
First of all I will state that one of the few jigs I’ve never owned is an Easy Jig (any generation) so this is based on their video’s and photos posted on the internet.
Side Plates - 5D Tactical PRO - has a MUCH thicker side plates that has hardened Drill Bushings installed, Easy Jig Gen 2 has steel side plates that appear to be QUITE a bit thinner than the 5D Tactical PRO jig, thicker equates to a much more precise alignment of the trigger, hammer, and safety holes. WINNER - 5D Tactical PRO
Starting Hole Guide - They both appear to be thick enough to allow a precise hole. TIE
Milling out the Fire Control Group Pocket - 5D Tactical PRO - Has guides milled into the top plate that mate up with the router base plate, uses three different guide pins for different cuts, Easy Jig Gen 2 uses the slot milled into the top plate similar to the original Modulus Arms Jig (which I have). WINNER - 5D Tactical PRO
Milling Bit - 5D Tactical PRO - uses their proprietary ReadyMILL bit which screws DIRECTLY to the router shaft, IMHO it’s a vastly more secure attachment method, Easy Jig Gen 2 uses the standard method of attaching a bit, it is held by a collet which works loose fairly regularly (experience with other router jigs) WINNER - BY FAR AND AWAY - 5D Tactical PRO
Router Base Plate - 5D Tactical PRO uses a bearing insert that helps in the rigidity of the mill bit, Easy Jig Gen 2 doesn’t. WINNER - 5D Tactical PRO
Industry Partner - 5D Tactical PRO is an ARFCOM Industry Partner and has been since October 21, 2016, Easy Jig has never been one. WINNER - 5D Tactical
If you get the impression I’m a huge fan of the 5D Tactical PRO jig, you would be correct. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts I would qualify as a “collector” of AR-15 jigs, both for my Mini Mill and for router use. Everything sits idle anymore except for my 5D Tactical PRO jig.
BTW, in researching the Easy Jig Gen 2, they claim their jig is the ONLY Jig that will do AR-15, AR-10, & AR-9’s. Any of us with quite a bit of experience on the 5D Tactical PRO knows this is TOTAL B.S.!
I can’t think of a single reason to go with the Easy Jig 2 over the 5D Tactical PRO, it appears to me the the 5D Tactical PRO is quite a bit superior to the Easy Jig 2.
If I’ve made any errors on the Easy Jig Gen 2, please post where I’m wrong (again, the information on the Easy Jig Gen 2, I gleaned from photos and videos)
