Anyone use a 20mm ammo can for loose shotgun shells? I figured can’t be that heavy for 12ga loose. Anyone done this? Need to know weight. How many loose? I think about 250 loose fit in a 50cal

loose as jumbled and dropped into the 20mm can, or loose as in laid out in rows across the 20mm can without being in actual boxes?  Basic Approximation is a 20mm can = 4 .50 cal cans.

20mm can would be a HEAVY bitch if filled.  Made that mistake with a can packed full of 7.62x51 NATO that I thought was so smart to Bulk Pack until I actually tried to pick up & move that can.

I figured out 600 FGMM 175 .308 in factory boxes (three cases of 200's worth) will fit in a Mk19 32 round can almost perfectly. Pretty heavy but can be easily moved for very short distances. But a 20mm? Man that must have sucked

I have two 20mm cans filled to the top with 7.62x39!
Heavy. But moveable by one guy. Shotgun shells
Thrown in loos. Not that heavy. So your saying about 4 50cans. That’s about 1000 rounds of 12ga

325 20 gauge shotshells fit stacked in a 50

.50 cans FILLED with any kind of ammo is damn heavy.  9mm, 45, 5.56mm, .50bmg, 22LR ... it's ALL heavy as shit.

Not sure I'd want to haul around  20mm can full of any caliber pews. I think a better use of a 20mm can would be storing preloaded mags for SHTF.

How many loaded USGI or Pmags fit in a 20mm can?  I get 20 5.56mm 30-round mags and 15 .308 20-round mags in a .50cal can.

I've got a couple 40mm cans loaded with 45ACP and 308Win, about 4K of 45ACP and 2K of 308Win respectively. Heavy, but moveable.

I dumped 100 buckshot into a 30cal can and it filled it nicely. Fat 50s with 5.56 is as heavy as I want to deal with.

I have no experience but I have some thoughts.

20mm is a pretty big can right? I recall people having issues with storing loaded 12ga magazines for mag fed shotguns. Apparently the spring pressure over time can cause deformation of the hulls, which leads to feeding failures.

I'd be a little hesitant to store loose 12ga shells in large quantity due to this potential issue. In small quantity it certainly isn't an issue (like my shotgun shell stash) but a fully loaded 20mm can MIGHT be an issue especially for the shells on the very bottom supporting all the weight.

Ive got a 40mm with 6 Chinese 10 pouch (SKS) belts/straps all loaded with x39 on stripper clips, some with 2clips some with 3. Packed tight but still moveable. Getting heavier every year

A 20mm  can stuffed full of full power rifle cartridges (such as .308 , 8mm , 30-06 ,7.62x54r etc., .. . ) will go close to (if not over ) 200 lbs.    I'm tough . .. but have trouble w/ these .

I have one of these 20mm ammo boxes.

Too flipin heavy to move around. Might as well just use a hole in the ground.

If you filled it up with loose bullets it may weigh 300 pounds.

40mm can will hold 46 USGI 30s + 2 USGI 20s.

They are a bitch to transport.

Had no idea that you could put 50 cal cans in a 20mm makes a interesting storage option

i have either a mk19 or a 20mm can i have no idea but basically the size of 3 or 4 .50 cans, i stacked approximately 7000 rounds of .22LR in factory 50 round boxes into it. pretty heavy but doable. i do know that one 50 cal can with loose .40 weighs around 60lbs and is no fun

20mm cans are too heavy for ammo storage, IMHO.  Fat 50 is as large as I'd go as far as metal can wise.

Try 5 gallon buckets for 12 gauge. Can get snap-on or screw-on lids with gaskets. Holds about 500 rounds, and will weigh between 45 to 60 lbs.

Stackable, discrete, and will last 15 to 20 years if kept out of the sun and UV light.

Go to a paint store or industrial supply for quality buckets. The box store orange or blue buckets are not that heavy duty.

No, it looks like not wide enough for 3. You’d get a 30cal can in that space. Wonder how many 30cal cans would fit? Way to heavy to move though even with 2 fully packed 5o cal cans in there.

I use 20mm cans to store my 20mm rounds.

I've seen such used as storage on custom truck beds and even a trailer.
