20" FN barrel, sling swivel ears removed from FSB, Manticore Arms Transformer Rail (actually the very first test piece from the CNC, took quite a bit of finish work) cut back to clear FSB.

Nice. I'm planning on doing a similar one with a RIS II and 11.5" barrel.

I really like the home made cutouts on the Geissele rails. Has anyone hacked a BCM or Midwest cutout rail?

Lol She told me the same not to long ago lol, I got a QRF from BCM the quad rail version of the KMR, so far I like it. Accuracy improved over the RAS. We'll see how tough the rail is come June lol

Here's mine.  I originally wanted a Centurion rail to dress up my Colt, but I walked into the Primary Arms store in Houston this weekend and found this Troy Charlie rail on the clearance rack.  Seems pretty solid and I like it so far.  Going to ditch the AFG for a Tango Down vertical grip and add some rail covers, but that's about it.

I was going to get a DD Omega rail again, but the Troy rail looks more appealing - my main reason for a FF rail is mounting my enormous Harris Bipod, and a normal sized carbine handguard won’t have much room left if I do that. How’d you get rid of the front sling swivel?

Brownells has a tan/brown A1 grip in stock.  I highly recommend on of those.

Bent one punch (used a far too small one briefly) but got it off. Now to find a good deal on a Troy Charlie or Delta rail.

Currently attempting to make a free float dissipator, however I do not want a drop in or quad rail. Any suggestions for a handguard, preferably MLOK? It looks like I need something 12.625 - 12.75. So far the only thing I have found is some from Midwest industries, and one from Zev. Both are 12.625. will this leave any gap between the end of the handguard and the start of the fsb?

What gas length system are you using? is using a carbine or mid?  Just put a tube on the front sight and chop it off for looks if not using rifle.

You want a slight gap. The smaller the better. Both of those rails should get the job done without too much daylight. My personal favorite for MLOK is the Fortis Rev II 12. Also uses standard barrel nut.

I'm at a loss for words. Not sure anyone else gets it, either. What are you trying to say here?

It's the windham mock dissipator, so it has the fsb but also a low profile gas block on the carbine spot that's hidden under the handguard. So the smaller the gap the better. will the fortis rev 2 be flush/ super close to the fsb? I will be unpinning the fsb to remove the end cap, and barrel nut if needed.

edit: would 12.5 be an unsightly gap? SLR makes a few 12.5s

Geissele 15 or 13 cutout for the FSB is what I'd do.

There aren't many MLOK rifle length hand guards out there.

Here's a couple digital mock-ups with a MK8 and MK14:

All of these rails would be fine. We're talking anywhere from .10" - .25". Personally, I'd go for a longer rail and cut a bit off the top to have an fsb pocket with surrounding rail sections at the 3, 6, and 9. That would look badass on a dissipator.

It's my Google Pixel2 XL portrait mode, it blurred it automatically. It focuses where you tell it to and if the object is angled away from the lens, the further end is blurred.

Well, I did a test "build" of my free float dissipator. These pics are with an upper and lower I am using for a different build. Still waiting on a billet set I want to be in stock.

https://imgur.com/gallery/syRycjj

The handguard is 12.625 inches, and there is a tiny gap. I can push the fsb back since it's a mock dissipator and the fsb is not the gas block. This would mean drilling new holes, which would overlap with the old ones, so I don't think it would work.

Receiver and handguard will be cerakoted titanium blue, the gray part of the pistol grip done to match the stock, and the barrel done either black or gray to to match the stock as well.
