| I have 2 completed slings and almost enough supplies (maybe missing a buckle or something) to make another two. Government just bought me new slings so I don't need to finish this project. I started a week ago and got sidetracked. $25 anyone for all of it? All the webbing is OD. I think I spent $40 something at strapworks for all the supplies. I love emails. I felt I should post this here since I figured no one in the EE would know what I was talking about. |
So what? Make it work with whats on hand. The idea is to make a good sling cheap, not to get wrapped up in the little details. The slings I make are different than the ones pictured, but they work very well for me. Make it work. |
Won't work... not double "loop" on one buckel.... I'll just get some more parts later..... had a hard enough time finding these.....  If I want a "cheap" sling, I could go get some "hop rope"..... have like 300yds of it.... |
Actually, it will work. You just make it like normal and then instead of running the two peices together through the second loop (which you don'y have) you just sew them together. Thats what I did. Took me 10 minutes to stitch all the way across it back and forth 5 times. Hell, you might even be able to just melt the two peices together with a blowtorch. I melted those two ends together. |
If anyone needs help with making the slings please ask me. I have made tons of them, for all my friends, for my squadron, for everyone. The heat to "meld" the two together will work just fine. I'm glad everyone is having such a good time talking about the slings. |

Ok, i just had to post these pics of my straps. Ive done a few modifications to each, which I think make it so much easier to work with and carry. The first, thing that I did was to sew the two buckels together, doing this made the overall thickness of the strap easier to deal with. http://img.photospit.com/guest/PICT0238.JPG http://img.photospit.com/guest/PICT0239.JPG Another modification that I made was to the way it attached to the rifle. I removed that strap that attached the sling to the barrel of the rifle, and instead sewed a hook to the strap. So that the Strap could easily be removed from the rifle for maintenance and cleaning. http://img.photospit.com/guest/PICT0240.JPG And lastly I used this slide for the stock, I found that the slide in the original write up caused the strap to bunch up and not slide smoothly, this helped greatly. http://img.photospit.com/guest/PICT0242.JPG all of the extra mods that I did where free. All of the hooks and buckles for the project where provided by ITWnexus.com for free, and the webbing was purchased from strapworks.com for 2 dollars. |

Here's my attempt at a sling. Got the strap at WalMart for $1.97 and sewed on end then used gorilla glue to help bind together. http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/8782/arsling2dk.jpg |

Finally got my stuff yesterday and built 2 last night. 1 from Nylon and 1 from Heavyweight Camo Poly. I would recommend the Poly (I think that was stated somewhere in the last 10 pages). Just seems to be more solid and a little better feel. I had to try both for myself and see. Now I wish I would have ordered enough stuff to make 2 more. Thanks everyone for putting me on Strapworks. Boy is this a useful thread. Can you believe I made my sling almost a month ago but couldn't figger out why it didn't fit right? HAD MY BODY IN THE WRONG LOOP!!! Oy! Now it fits GREAT! Gotta see how much line I have left. Might be able to pull off 2 more slings with what I've got on hand. One more for me and one for a buddy. Ok after MONTHS of putting it off, I did it, and for free!! I "Acquired" the 4 Clips from Old school bags and Shopping cart seat belts (my apt complex has a HERD of 40 shopping carts by the dumpster). The for the 15" peices of 1" webbing I used my old black sling. The lil {|} peices I got from the above sources as well. 2 X 8" peices of velcro cable keepers Double sided so they Stick to themselves when looped. I got LONG OD green 1" webbing from Hawaii, left overs from a friend, that was 7'. I had single loop clips so I had to improvise with the Velcro straps and the [|] to make the slider thing. I used the second velcro strap in place of the front 15" peice incorporating a third clip for quick release.(I just got TRAPPED in my sling! My wife had to rescue me! This piece is a god send!) I have a Mk2 cav arms lower which has the rear sling mount in the perfect place, I just made the last 15" peice loop around the butt and put a fourth clip in place of the [|] slider for quick release(In case I get really trapped!). I LOVE it!!!!!!! All Free Materials!!!!!!! Took like 10 mins. As a Soldier I prefer the Left side carry in case I have to manipulate things with my right arm like a .50 cal or throw a grenade or to choke a bitch! |

I couldn't find the 1 1/2" webbing and hardware locally, so I ordered from StrapWorks. I ordered on a Friday and received it on a Monday, not too shabby! Total was around $9.75 (and I ordered a foot extra of each size webbing "just in case"). Total time to make the sling according to the instructions here, less than 5 minutes. Since I don't have my AR built yet I tried it out on my AK. I was surprised to find how much I like the left side carry, even though I'm right handed. Thanks for the instructions! |
