CONCEPTUALLY SPEAKING. FOUR OF FIVE HAVE 18" SPR CONTOUR DOUGLAS BARRELS. THE FIFTH IS A DOUGLAS 16", BECAUSE I RAN OUT OF 18" AND THEY NEEDED FIVE TOTAL CHOP-CHOP. THEY HAVE 12" RAILED FORENDS, THE LARUE 12.0, BETTER THAN USED IN THE MK 12'S, IMO. THEY HAVE BACK-UP IRON SIGHTS, BETTER THAN THOSE USED BY CRANE, IMO, EVEN BACK-UP ELECTRO-OPTICS. PRI GAS BUSTER CHARGING HANDLES AS USED IN THE SPR'S, BUT FITTED BOLTS IN YOUNG MFG HARD CHROMED N/M BOLT CARRIERS, NOT USED M16A1 BOLT CARRIER GROUPS SELECTED RANDOMLY. THEY ALL USE THE LEUPOLD LR/T, AS WAS USED IN EARLY SPR'S, BUT WITH A BETTER MOUNT, THE LARUE SPR. THEY ALL SHOT FAR BETTER THAN THE CRANE MANDATED 3-SHOT 1.25 MOA FOR THE SPR'S. Heres a pic from today of a real SPR - right down to the TS-30. Just over 8K rounds through the barrel and it still hits a 6" plate at 350yds every time. I shot it until the mirage from the can made impossible to see the target. That rifle paired with the 12th model suppressor is a dream to shoot.

Awesome. Thanks. I thought so. I checked a couple of pics of real Mk12's. They all had set screws. The large two crossbolt clamp style is easy to see from the right side. The key bolts are huge. Is it just because the clamp is quicker to put on? Anyone think either is sturdier/better? |
the set screw is the best, but for most folks the clamp on sight is good enough. |

1700 I would guess that's an older pic and the 1720 is relatively new. Plus the 1720 has metal reinforcements at the locking points. Of course, the new 1700 might be reinforced too, but not the last few new ones I looked at. A 1720 may not be authentic, but you would be able to store the rifle assembled in it, versus breaking it down for a 1700. |

Hey Steve, Speaking of gas blocks, which one is used on the Mod 1, the Badger Ordnance or Schuster? Both of them claim to be exact copies of the Mod 1 gas block. Justin |

You got it, Kemp. And many thanks for the compliments. Actually, I still have to figure out the mounting options for the 9 volt Turbohead Surefire with the OPS and bipod, but I'm sure I can find a setting that works with the LaRue Tactical offset Surefire mount.

Everything I've seen says that the early Mod 0s had the Versapod with ARMS QD mount (mount now discontinued), and later Mod 0s and Mod 1s had the Harris with that ARMS mount (although you see some KAC bipod mounts and now, LaRues). Almost every real .mil SPR you can find in recent pics of in the GWOT is sporting a Harris. I understand the Versapod is not well-liked (and is made in China)... YMMV. Will |
