Hey stick, what case is that on page one?  Also, didn't I read once that you said, these were the best rails on the market, in your opinion?  Have these continued to performe great for you?  Thanks, 9080

I recently bought a C4 9" cut-out rail from Ranier Arms (got a great deal) for my BCM.

I think it is only the Centurion uppers that are unavailable right now.

Just picked up a 12" rail and have a few potentially stupid questions about the install:

1.  What's the torque spec on the screws?  I actually don't have a torque wrench so is there a good way to judge proper torque (i.e., tighten holding just the short end of the allen wrench or hold the long end to get more torque)?  I have a tendency to over-torque screws; I see a screw and I just can't help but tighten it as hard as I can.

2.  Does it matter what order you tighten the screws?  The instructions for installing a Troy MRF rail say to tighten the back two screws first and then the front two and it looks like these two rails have similar attachment systems.

Thanks

I tightened them to as firm as I could go witha hand held driiver, and tightened from back to front. 2 classes and close to a thousand rounds later and they have stayed put!

Thanks!  I really like the index clips - but I need to stipple them (which will be a chore).

The index clips make for a slimmer grip, are precise in placement and weigh a little bit less than the XTM panels (I think).

Yep I had them on my last rail setup, but have been preferring ladder rails on this rail. They looks sharp on yours!

I agree that the Centurion rail runs slick with ladders - even lighter and slimmer than the index clips.

sgwlower, have you experienced the ladders getting pretty warm at a class without gloves?
Link Posted: 12/3/2011 12:34:38 PM EDT
[#19]
Warm yes, but nothing even remotely bothersome. I do run a lightweight bbl though so heat comes and goes very quickly !

Just received this yesterday from Weapon Outfitters and installed last night, replaced my Omega rail. Thanks to all of you for the pics and the referral to Weapon Outfitters, I'm very pleased with both. I have been looking at all the rails with FSP cut outs and this one came out on top the second I saw it. I think it was the shape of the rail around the bayonet lug that sold it for me for some reason.

Another pic showing the other side.

Sir James...

I don't even like fixed FSBs and I want to build one like yours now....

I'm in exactly the same position.  Not usually a fan of the FSB, but that cut-out rail looks killer...has that classic AR look, but looks cutting edge all at the same time.

I already have two 14.5" uppers...guess I need to find a good excuse to make it three.

That is the configuration I carry for as a duty weapon.  Here are a few images that show it, though my duty weapon uses a standard M16 carrier, and Battle Comp as opposed to the way its shown in these early shots.

The mount is great... typical Gear Sector quality, locks up solid, and places the light close to the rail.

As I said above, the only problem I have is that my Troy BUIS is too wide to be mounted next to the light. I am hoping that a Daniel Defense fixed front will solve my problem.

Anyone else have issues with the installation of slide on rail accessories on the C4?

I have a KAC vertical grip that absolutely positively won't slide on. 1/4" then solid stop.

Same grip easily slides on a YHM Diamond and a Troy TRX Extreme.

Clamp on accessories no problem but slide on is a no go. Seems like the rails are a little out of spec.

Other than this issue it's slick design is second to none.

I have one rail which is a little fat. If you have major issues––call centurion. Monty is fantastic to work with and he will take care of you.

One of my favorite features of the CA rails is how tight KAC rail covers fit. They are a bitch to get one, but they don't move once on. I love how solid they feel––as if part of the rail––rather than the slight movement they have on other rails (e.g., DD and KAC). Of course, that's not the only reason to pic a rail.
Link Posted: 1/11/2012 10:22:51 AM EDT
[#44]
Yea, I'll probably give them a call. Does seem like others may have similar issues.

The KAC is the only slide on accessory I have at the moment. Scope mounts and even a Magpul AFG "clamp" on so the tight fit had gone unnoticed.

To cmcflex:, the rail/grip fit is so tight that a hammer would be needed to install and any future adjusment would be next to impossibile.

This issue aside, my next build is already  being designed around another CA Rail.

I noticed my LaRue index clips, XTMs and TD stubby were fairly tight to get on. I had to take a file to the stubby to get it to slide on. If it is out of spec, it isnt by much at all and I would rather have it tight than loose

The thorn tail would be great for regular middies and carbines. On. Rifle rail it doesn't do anything that the gear sector mount does using less space. The quality is superb, and the machining beautiful. If I build another middy build I would pick one up for sure.
