As someone stated above very wisely (guy from Montana), it's not about leaving or quitting----it's about LIVING, as in quality of life in freedom.
As for me, I'm leaving California.
To leave California cannot be equated with leaving the USA proper and denouncing my citizenship so therefore I would resent the implication that it is.
The loss of my vote to CA is only a gain for another state. Nothing has changed there, so how is this a loss to the cause of freedom.

CA is fucked and it's only going to get worse. Start with population/social issues and go from there--I need not go into it further here as you already know. You forever optimists remaining in CA better get realistic about things and consider the virtues of choosing your battles wisely.
MOVE to a pro 2nd state. We can all agree these states could sure use the help and reinforcements.

The weather is good, the money is "good", but the price of it all is consistently less and less good.
Retreat and regroup!

IMHO FWIW

I am a GI stationed in Germany, but am a native of California. A few years ago, I was home on leave and decided to go shooting with my girlfriend. Being from Europe, she had never shot a gun before so she was pretty excited. We took out my M-1A and Bushmaster pre-ban carbine to the county shooting range. We were the only ones there with any sort of military guns, and allot of people gathered around. I could hear some of them talk with the range officers about how what I had was illegal, etc. The range officers replied that it was not their job to check legality of weapons. Still made me very uncomfortable. So, after a short time, we left.

I understand thoughs who dont want to leave California. If I had not joined the military, I would not of either. Leave your home town, your whole family, everything so that you can just own an AR? Screw that. I would get a FAB-10, or a M-1A or start collecting C & R guns. Some other facet of the hobby.

Choosing to leave is a personal matter and I don't begrudge those that do.  Maybe some day I too will leave this place.  At the very least I plan on having a seasonal dwelling in a more 2nd friendly state.  A buddy of mine may be moving to Nevada soon.  I told him if he does I'd rent a room at his place to use at my convenience.  A fire proof safe in Nevada would be mighty convenient.

way-out-west2: Welcome & Get ready to filter through all of the Anti- California Clutter to get to really great advice, and tips. Posts like that from  drfcolt are few and far between. In my opinion, if most people would just answer the questions asked, we'd all be better off. If people want to blast CA, start a post for that specific reason. 1) People can talk about how f*#ked up CA is, and how glad they live somewhere else. 2) People from CA can get advice from other AR-15 enthusiasts without having to filter through all the Anti-California rhetoric. Okay, I'm jumping off of my soapbox.

On the CA legal AR-15, if you gotta have an AR, and you don't mind pivoting your upper to load it, then go for it!

Good Luck!

Well, if it isn't the thread Police again! [>Q]
You got your 'invaluable' advice in, so what are you bitching about???
Your pigheadedness will one day bite you in the ass in a big way. How's that for rhetoric?
Good luck.

If throwing around the word "rhetoric" so gratuitously like some dirtbag trial lawyer is your best premise for defending CAliforinia's dismal conditions, then you need to reevaluate what side of the fence you're on.
