are you referring to the engraving on the lower? Sandblasting won't take off the lettering. Just stop when you see silver! just kidding. just a light sandblasting is all you need. |

Yes all the green is going to go to black. It is desert tan od green and factory black. The green looked good in my head but it sucks on the gun. I used Norrells molly resin. With this stuff it is best to take all the old paint off before you put it on because the different finishes determine the outcome of the gloss of the new paint. Also there is some chipping where I didn’t take it down enough. First time paint job so im learning. |
Sorry it took so long... I have a badger anthem 155 double action that always clogs after I use it (I don't clean so well.) I don't use a booth. I just hang the pieces from assorted sizes of wires or elevate them over a cut length of 2x4 using different sizes of steel rods from Home Depot- from 1/8" diameter to 1/4" diameter, bent and shaped with one end stuck into a hole drilled into the wood plank. I bake them in the oven in my house that way. I got a little bit of sap smell last time but no noxious paint smell. I get a very very smooth finish when I'm done. I leave the garage open and let the excess get carried out by the wind- which usually isn't much at all. I have even had my cherokee in the garage for some small jobs and haven't found any duracoat on it. Just make sure to leave your car very dirty. The duracoat usually dries in the air and lands dry on the dirt on the car. If you do spray in a small area like a booth, you can get a rougher finish from the dried particles landing on the wet and fusing together. I am not sure if I have Stickman's seal of approval. He only gives those to the MolyResin crowd I believe. I am in the Duracoat crowd still. Not for long though...  |

I have used all that you talk about and all your ideas when refinishing this. With that said I have to give you some credit for this. Although it is molly resin, it’s still the same process. You do some fine work and produce some fine looking AR’s. I showed you this same AR a few weeks ago but chose to redo it because I had some chipping on the tan. Sand blasted and now it’s great. Thanks for the help Bryon
