Sweet, you should do the scope and bipod though!

Though about it, but I'm not going to bake the scope.  It will be in the EE in a couple minutes. Whoever buys it can finish it however they want

Any detrimental effects to baking a scope, or did you just not want to do it?

Please forgive all my KG related questions; I swear I'm getting closer to sending you something to paint!

MeagerMouse.

Very good reason.

Why would you do that to a Colt?

Because it's a tool, built to serve a purpose, like most tools are.

That's why I asked.

Thank you.

Does this finish wear at all, or is it comparible to finishes like ArmorTuff, Birdsong T, Metacol, Bearcoat, etc.?

Sammy

Any finish will wear., and it does have a teflon and boron. I would say its every bit as tough if not tougher than all those above - with the added benefit that it goes on thinner than all those above.

I dont know, and I dont want to find out with an $800.00 scope

Huh, I wonder if baking falls under Leupold's warranty?  The conversation would go like this:

bigbore:  "I would like to get my scope fixed under warranty."
Leupold Rep:  "What exactly happened to the scope?"
bigbore:  "Well...  I...  Uh...  Baked it..."
Leupold Rep:  "You did what?"

If I were to paint an AR, I'd go with a lower tier brand like Colt for the guinea pig too...
Nice job Bigbore. Just don't care much for pony worshippers.

ADCO,

How much that sort of upper runs for (Less scope, bi-pod and custom paint) ???? Also, is that flash hider a working one? What about the muzzle threads, are they standard?

Thanks.

I wonder how a Leupold would do on the low heat bake cycle required for the PRI tubes. 16 hours at 160F.  I wonder if it would dry out the seals.  I bet you could Coyote Alumahyde II the scope.  It is a close color match to the Dark Earth brown.

bigbore,

The only problem is PRI says not to bake their tubes at the higher temps.  They said "We do not guarantee the forearm to hold up to the 300 degrees for 1 hour."  They told me to call K-G and talk with Joe Fazio about the low temp cure.  I did mine at 160 for 16 hours and it passed the tape test an wouldn't come off with MEK.

looks good, why didn't you do the outside of the dust cover?    you probably could have just left it in place, i've sprayed mine that way.
