Well done Henry. People will see this and remember if they need work.

OP, get a refund for $120 and blast them here.

They’ll never understand how buying you two new muzzle devices would’ve been cheaper in the long run. Can’t fix stupid.

For any interested parties, the gun shop is Xtreme Gun Worx in Emmaus PA. Here is their website.

First let me say that "work" by the shop was really screwed up.

Second, if the shop owner is offering to make it right, might I suggest you try to talk to the fella face to face, with the parts in front of the two of you, before you burn his business down?  He maybe willing to ship them out to another smith to have work repaired and done right but your text messages seem to have boxed him into a corner.

I missed the text on pg 2... Glad ADCO is helping you out.

“XTREME” and “Worx” in any business title is a huge flag for me. For a title to include both should have been a huge stop sign. I’m not blaming you OP but my advice is always be looking for hidden or blatant clues.

I tried to take the high road, I'm sure you understand me not wanting their "gunsmith" to touch them again. They spent maybe ten minutes putting those two "tack welds" down and are that ignorant to not realize it's completely hack, and understand why I'd like a refund.

The fact that the shop will piss away their reputation on one terrible pin and weld job tells me all I need to know.

Is this the same company that did business as Xtreme Machining in Grassflat, PA?

ETA:  Xtreme Machining has their name stamped on the side of an akm by ATI called the AT-47.

Good on ADCO for fixing this.  They cut down then pin and welded a Colt barrel for me.  The barrel came out really nice but with minor gouges on the FSB. Overall I was happy

Good to know.  They're pretty local to me (the first recommendation from Silencer Shop based on my location).  I'll definitely be avoiding them after this.

My God. Incompetent AND arrogant.

Eta: FWIW, here's one that I did this a.m., took me a whopping .5 hr to assemble/drill/P&W.

https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/416992/Screenshot_20200110-164509_Gallery-1229046.jpg

Granted the SF mounts/FHs are a bit more tight on placement but far from impossible. NO REASON to weld the device to the barrel.

Don’t do the charge back yet.  Contact the shop one more time and tell them you are filing a chargeback if they don’t refund your charge immediately. The threat of a charge back will be enough for them to refund your card.  CC processing chargebacks is a scam that NEVER favors the business owner.  If you do a charge back, the shop will be charged a fee of at least $25, (in addition to your refund) and it effects the rates the pay to process the card. They know they will not win a charge back dispute and will give you your money.

Wow. Not sure what amazes me more- how awful that “pin&weld” is or the fact they think it’s normal?

OP, I’m glad ADCO took care of you. I was tempted to post a picture of my last pin & weld by my local FFL for you to send to these bozos but you can’t actually see any sign of it. I’m sure they would accuse you of lying haha

Why do people keep giving their AR's to local "gunsmiths" to get mangled?

Do they not know how common this is?

Personally, I would not put rounds through a barrel with a muzzle device welded directly to it.  Some people don't even like silver solder, this is worse.   Barrels are cheap enough, and it's not worth it.

It's a simple pin and weld job. The way the butchered it is not commonplace.  Obviously this will not be getting shot in this configuration, adco is fixing it properly.

Not to hijack the thread, but when it looks this good how do you prove to someone that it is in fact pinned/welded and legal? I mean this is amazing work.
