I initially used a standard gas block on my Criterion bbl because I wanted to keep things as simple as possible.  I ended up replacing it. l

@Rezneck

So, what exactly caused you to switch to an adjustable?

Did your gun not run reliably with a standard gas block?

Also, which barrel did you have?

Looks like an awesome build!

I have access to a 300yrd range to sight it in and function check it.

However, I am "essential" and simply don't have the available time.

I am also lacking in various .308 ammo to see what the gun likes. I am hopeful that it really likes 168gr FGMM, as I have about 100rds of that, but I am willing to test others before making a large purchase to stock up on. And I am sure as hell not going to make a large purchase with some of the current pricing due to the "crisis".

20" Nitride .308 bbl.

It was cycling pretty hard. Kicking brass 15 feet @ 1:30 - 2:00. The front of the port and even the back edge of the rail was getting dinged with brass.   It would cycle 10 round P-mags but not 20 round D&H mags. The P-Mags have a stiffer spring than the D&H.  I installed a stiffer buffer spring and adjustable gas block and it seems to work fine now. I haven't had the time to really ring it out. yet.

I've been sitting on 400 rounds of 308 for almost a decade with plans to buy or build a rifle that can use it. Hasn't been a priority, but I figured if I wanted one, 2020 is a good year to check that box (honestly need to be checking a lot more boxes before November if funds allow).

Aero blems and sales are making this possible. Got the lower on sale for $120 I believe. Upper was a blem, parts kits were on sale, CDNN had the complete 308 buffer/stock kit for $29.99...Strike while the iron is hot.

I'm going to give the BCG recommended by @Lonestar12 a shot.

It's probably been addressed already, but does the PRI 762 Gasbuster CH work with the Aero lower without modifications?

https://uniim1.shutterfly.com/ng/services/mediarender/THISLIFE/021024940703/media/125052221733/large/1583846012/enhance

I'm sure you already got your answer, but the PRI Gasbusters work well with zero modifications. I used one until just recently. If you're looking for a black one still let me know. I'd come off of this one for less than new one.

Is that tripod the one from Hog Saddle? If so, what do you think of it?

Got my build completed last weekend.  I also went with a Magpul RLS sling so I could sling up Rhodesian quick loop style or cinched down 1907 style.

Here's a break down of my parts list.

Lower
Aero M5 Lower Receiver
Aero Lower Parts Kit - Trigger Assembly
Geissele G2S Trigger
BCM A5 Receiver Extension
Armalite AR10 EA1095 Recoil Spring
BCM H3 Buffer
PWS Ratchet QD End Plate
Magpul ACS Stock
Blueforce Gear ULOOP
Magpul K2+ Grip

Upper
Aero M5 Upper Receiver
Aero Upper Parts Kit
Raptor LT 7.62 Charging Handle
Aero M5 Phosphate Bolt Carrier
Criterion Head Spaced Fulton Bolt
Criterion 18", Nitrided, Hybrid .308 Barrel
Surefire Warcomp 762
SOLGW Low Profile Gas Block
Spikes Nitrided Rifle Gas Tube
CMT Tactical UPHR 15.0 Mod 2-HP Handguard
ADM 20 MOA(6 MIL) Recon Scope Mount
Weaver Tactical 3-15X50mm Scope With EMDR Reticle
Butler Creek Scope Lens Covers
Troy Folding Rear Battle Sight
Troy Folding Front Battle Sight
Magpul MLOK Bipod
Magpul MLOK QD Mount
Magpul RLS Sling

I hand lapped the upper receiver in the vertical position.  I just used hand pressure and the weight of the lapping tool.  I feel like it gave me more control than using a drill and only took a couple of minutes longer.  I also used .001 stainless steel shim and wrapped it around the barrel extension to take out any play between it and upper receiver.  It was not as tight as a BCM spec upper but it was very tight with no play.  I didn't have to use a rubber mallet to get the barrel and upper receiver put together.

I used Loctite 2422 extreme high heat, medium thread locker on the gas block set screws and the hand guard locking block.

The barrel nut, gas block, gas tube and Warcomp installed.  I used a neutral timing on the Warcomp.

VG6 makes a Gamma that's specific to the 6.5 (.26") caliber.  an Epsilon too.  If you shop around you can find them at a pretty significant discount, I picked up a few at $50 each last BF.

https://www.vg6precision.com/vg6-gamma-65

otherwise, most folks use a 308 MD.

A 16" 6.5 Creedmoor seems like the perfect sleeper rifle for the range.  Roll up with a carbine-looking autoloader and then start ringing plates at 1,000.  I went with an 18" on my build, but mostly because I wanted the Rifle +1" gas system.

I've been gather parts and pieces to put an Aero based 308 together for a while. Had pretty much put it on the back burner with the craziness and everything being unattainable. The 16" CMV barrels have always been OOS whenever I looked.

I get their emails for sales, etc., but never have the barrel I want. Low and behold, I look at an email from today and damned if that barrel isn't on sale with free shipping. And they still have it. Got one coming. Few more pieces and we're in business.

If we use the Aero BCG, does the headspace need to be checked? What about the Toolcraft?

Chrome plated bolt carrier with DPMS bolt and guts

BAD 90 degree selector
Radian SL charging handle
BCM Mod 1 grip

Magpul M-LOK bipod
Lancer L7 20 round mag
Burris XTRII 1-8 in a Midwest Industries mount

I have a Surefire 300 SPS suppressor and usually install their muzzle devices but I put this rifle together for my brother who doesn't own a suppressor. If he backs out on the rifle I have a Surefire Warcomp ready to go.

First time I've put together a large frame, done plenty of small ones. It's funny, I bought this Mega wedge lock handguard by accident when they were starting to get scarce thinking I was buying a small frame size because I didn't read closely enough, I was just trying to get my hands on a 7075-T6 handguard before they were gone. So it sat in the box collecting dust until I remembered I had it while building this. Drilled the Aero upper with a little pin hole and it came out perfect. This handguard isn't moving for anything short of a big hammer, and you better eat your Wheaties first.

My normal range has been closed for months now so I'm trying to find another option to get it out and break it in.

Welp.  Not really sure wtf is up with my rig but the 22" Criterion SBN from Brownells doesn't seem to want to shoot.  143 ELD handloads, American Gunner, and S&B Match all were 2+ MOA.  bout 150 or so rounds down the barrel, it should be fairly settled.

Aero mount, G1 PST 6-24, G2S-E.  Everything's tight and torqued properly.  it's the same with or without the muzzle brake/can mount, and with or without the can.

Harumph.  I don't wanna think Criterion put out a sub-par barrel, but I also was putting several handloads (53ELD-M over Varget, 75BTHP over TAC, 73ELD over 8208XBR) into 10-round sub-moa groups through my white oak varmint barreled small-frame build, so I'm fairly certain it wasn't me either.
