I should get the Level IIIA armor I ordered tomorrow. I'm planning to do a T&E session Sunday morning. I'll be evaluating the following...

110gr TTSX
110gr TCC
115gr TME
115gr TXC

I'm also planning gel tests with those loadings at some point too.

This is probably not going to happen this weekend. The vendor I purchased from sent it USPS Signature Required.
My local USPS station is a total cluster and it'll likely be returned undelivered.

What distance are you planning on do the test? The ones I see online are always close. Would really like to see at least 50 yards but 100 yards would really be nice with 110 tac tx and the others you listed.

15 yards is my concern. I can test longer; definitely not 100yards and I don't think the bays are 50yards. But, I'll keep that in mind and do the max distance allowed and post it back here.

Yeah, i was looking for a light weight rifle to replace the heavy bolt guns i was dragging up and down WV hills/mountains.  So went with the AR.

I built an upper using a Shaw 18" barrel.  Very accurate barrel shoot 125 or 135 gr ammo from Sig or Wilson. Shaw even sells complete uppers.

This is a perfect mountain rifle.  Did not shoot a deer last year, but will be carrying it again in a few weeks.   I did shoot 2 coyotes last deer season.....the lady down the road a bit has chickens...she would kick my butt if she heard i passed on yotes.  Lol.

@100 yard shots on the coyotes.  Messed them up good.

My shaw barrel shoots the Sig ammo very well.

Seems to mimic the Wilson 135fr loading.

Got the armor today. Supposed to rain this weekend. Trending...not gonna happen.

300 hamr gets used here in TX. I swapped the Ruger 300 blk barrel for the HAMR with the kit WC sells. Short gun for the truck and 16" for the thermal for tripod work. Honestly the bolt action is my favorite to shoot. 125g hornady HP loads at 2550fps using shooters world Socom powder. The short 11.3" gas gun gets 2250 fps with the same load which is comparable to 7.62x39. Coyotes, rabbits, foxes are not safe.

I wondered where this tread had drifted off to.

Short barreled rifle/pistol ARs are not my thing but I did like following the post.  With 8 300 HAM'Rs (5 ARs & 3 bolt guns) I would have to admit I am a little bias for the cartridge.

I currently have the barrel stripped out. Probably going to rebuild this using SMOS GFY receivers. Swap over my SIG suppressors.
I won't be getting to the range anytime soon so plenty of time to rebuild this.

Just an FYI for 300 HAMR reloaders out there, the new Hornady line of CX all copper bullets in 100 are too long for 300 HAMR but will work on 300 blk.

I have the 11.3" with a YHM Resonator K, I get 2300 FPS with 125s which is faster than a 16" 7.32x39 soviet. I was curious of the 8" but that was dipping too close into 300 blk velocities.

These are Wilson 125 gr Sierra soft points. I am not expecting great velocity, but I will have 300 brass afterwards.

Can anyone tell me any real world velocities they are getting from the 11.3" barrels with factory ammo?

I am interested in building a short light sbr for deer and hog. Most likely under 200 yards but always nice to be able to streach it out a little further if needed. Realistly it would probably be unde 150 yards.

with 125g hornady HP or FMJ it performs better than a 7.62x39 in a 16". Significantly lighter than an akm too. This is my 11.3" barrel with a YHM resonator K suppressor. I used Socom powder and these are not higher on the load data. 2350 is easily achievable. I will post results on the next loadout.

Absolutely false.

7.62x39 will do whatever 300 Hammer will do regarding ballistics. Actually better downrange, as the 7.62x39 can use pointy bullets and the hammer cant.

What the hammer can do is easily use standard magazines and bolts.

What platform the cartridge is chambered in is irrelevant regarding velocity.

Under 16", 300 hammer, 300 blackout, 6.5 Grendel, 7.62x39 are all extremely poor performers terminally speaking. I know because ive done it.
So pick the one designed by your favorite company, or with your favorite catchy name, grab a bag of popcorn and start typing away. They are all so close it honestly doesn't matter.

I get 300 fps more out of a 16". So.... that squashes that argument. I also dont try to shove a x39 into tiny bolt face platform and problematic STANAG curved mags. I keep the x39 in the AKM where it belongs.

Posts like this are why this cartridge is dead as this thread. Kept alive by the same one or two folks.

Anyone brings reality into the discussion gets stupid remarks like that.

It's 2025. Militaries are "shoving a x39 cartridge into a tiny bolt face" now, and so are thousands of others with no ill side effects others than excessive giggles.

x39 is an extremely inherently accurate cartridge, and performs remarkably well in any rifle platform. I've got x39 in ARs, AKs, Gallis, Bolt guns, mini-30s, and all performed exactly as intended.

My x39 and 300 hammer handloads run within 30-40fps in each other with 125/124gr handloads over AA2200, Ramshot TCM and CFEBLK with 16" barrels.

Claiming 300fps more with equal barrel lengths and equal quality handloads is absolutely foolish misinformation.

I dare you to focus on what the Hammer can do that all other dozen AR15 variant cartridges can't. Not some stupid niche crap rhetoric like above. I mean real. How far will a 300 hammer kill that in that exact scenario, animal and shot placement, properly loaded 7.62x39 or 300 BLK wont kill?

Typical yankee style response. Im comparing steel cased soviet loads to handloads with shooters world socom. I dont handload x39 because its a waste of time. The hamr only needs a barrel swap and some 300 blk mags. I load for 300 blk too but that comes out of 7" gas guns where we arent chasing velocity. How far will 300 hamr kill in comparison to x39 or 300 blk? Lots of variables once again, but we arent shooting anything past about 350 on thermal because you cant identify it properly. Hamr is more accurate for me out to 300 in comparison to steel soviet and Im not going to deal with more bullet drop using a 300 blk. Any of those cartridges are terrible in the wind past 300, so Im going to say, 300y max but I am more accurate and consistent in the hamr on target.

As for the tiny bolt face, its a terrible design in the ar15 platform. This is the reason CMMG made the mutant. SR25 barrel lug and bolt. Modified carrier. This is also the reason you are now seeing the development of the Magpul ICAR magazine to accomodate the newer ICAR AR15 designs with the larger bolt face, larger barrel lug and increased magazine well size to accommodate the ICAR magazine which came from the dimensions of the LWRC Six8 lower. They are gonna stuff all the x39 variants, 6.5 grendel, 6arc, 338 arc, 30ARXl 22arc in that and those shitty x39 STANAG dimension metal curved mags are going to be tossed in the garbage.

- I can sum all of that up for you. It doesnt do anything the others can't do. All three kill the same at the same ranges. Objectively prove me wrong in the field. We will forgo the elevator music on this one, cuz it isn't coming anytime soon!

-Geissele mags. Everyone else is loving thier Grendel, 6ARC, x39, 6.8, 30 RAR and anything else bolt faces nowdays. Look through the entire first page of the variants section and you dont see one broken bolt from any cartridge. Again if it makes you feel better then by all means tell yourself whatever you want. But please, keep the exaggerated cherry picked marketing type crap outta the thread. Only confuses folks.

Still leaning/depending on the 300BLK. Very interested in the Phantom Defense rounds that I saw @panthermark post about.

Continuing to research and evaluate 556 SBR platforms. Looking at the 556 Honey Badger upper kit. Frankly a little disappointed that the ammo industry hasn't developed an effective round for a 8" bbl 556.

Keeping an eye on the 338ARC.

8" 5.56 will be hard due to trying to burn that much (longer burning) powder in such a short distance within a small bore.   There is a couple of rounds out there that "PoBoySpecial" (YoutTube) had tested out of a 7.5" that could work, and both Badlands and BlackArc make some all copper NAS3 rounds that might work (might be pretty spicy), but it is a bit of round peg, square hole deal when directly compared to a cartridge designed to run out of barrels that short.

OP, do you mind commenting on why you’re moving to another cartridge?   Not enough velocity, too little industry support, something else?

This thread has interested me, so I admit surprise to your statement that you’re moving on.

I’ve also thought about a 300 Blackout wildcat based on the .350 Legend case when I learned that case had a rebated rim and slightly larger base diameter.  All it would take to convert a Blackout barrel would be a chamber reamer.  But in the end, at least for me, I’m not sure the juice would be worth the squeeze.  That’s kinda the same boat I’m in about the Hamr.

It's an...aggressive round. For a short barreled lightweight platform.

I wasn't expecting it to be much different than shooting supers from my honey badger, but it is quite noticebly more powerful.

I can see why this shines in a longer barrel length and used for medium game hunting, especially pigs. If I was still pig hunting, this would be my go to round, even over the 458 SOCOM I use to have.

ETA: I think industry support is about as good as can be expected for a cartridge that's not mainstream. Bill loves it and the offerings from Wilson Combat reflect that. But I guess the antithesis would apply...if it falls out of favor with Bill, it's probably dead in the water.

Yeah, looking back at my first post in this thread, that was the conclusion I came away with when I looked into a few years ago.  I was looking at the 8.3" barrel, but the research and comments around it basically told me to go 11.3" or longer because the 8.3" was...........spicy.   Since we can't own suppressors in Illinois, that was not what I was looking for from a shortie HD weapon.  I had always found  comparisons to 300blk missing the mark since the cartridges use cases only had a small overlap.

On a side note, I did just chrono some NAS3 120's from a 10.5" 300blk.  Got 2250 fps.

Thanks for that reply.

The can I use on my short Blackout with a Law Tactical folder is a YHM Resonator K.  It knocks down the bark a little, but I don’t shoot it without hearing protection.

I suspect an 8.3” Hamr might do bad things to my can.

I used a Rearden Atlas XL adapter (I use the Liberty precision machine flash hider) to get a little more standoff into the first baffle section of my YHM Resonator K on my 11.3 and noise is minimum. I would even say its quieter than a 556 but a lower tone.

Thanks for that info!  The Resonator K is the first can I’ve bought since the mid teens, so I’m behind the times regarding what’s available.
