The group was fired offhand at 100 feet. I was function testing it, not testing for accuracy. The ammunition was Winchester white box. I've had three of these rifles - this one's a keeper. My first SKS was a Yugo that was so disappointing I threw it into the gun safe and bought a chinese model. Yugo has what appears to be Cosmo in places and a really crappy stock which led me to buy this finer example of an SKS. Up next an AK 47 (prolly Yugo with an under-folding stock) Rofl I hate the SKS made in Yugoslavia but the Yugo Ak I want appears to be better then the junk wasr's they are selling at the local gun shops! |

It's a surplus gun, they all have cosmoline on/in them. You have to clean it up. My Yugo was slathered in cosmo, but cleaned up nicely. There was a nice rifle under all that stuff.

I personally loved cleaning the cosmo out of my yugo, I thought it was a blast getting to know how the whole rifle worked. |

Hello, this is my first post here. My first SKS too. I have no idea what it is. Here are some pics. Previous owner put the stock on but included the original wood with it. $300 is what I paid. Supposedly 1-2 box's put through it. Here's a picture of my Chinese with the Tapco stock. As much as I like it, I still returned it to original condition. The rifle was a gift from my wife. I added the fixed mag. The original was missing and it had a thirty round detachable mag when I got it. I ordered a replacement bolt cover as it came to me with the scope mount. The sling came from Apex and it suits the setup nicely but I have replaced it with a correct Chinese sling. The muzzle brake is by NC Star. I modified the bayonet to work in conjunction with the brake. I'll update the picture soon.

My first norinco, I really like the stock but I can't find any other pics in this thread with the thumbhole stock, must not be very popular? I kinda like it myself...

Wow. Lots of people reporting the SKS as their first gun!
My SKS was the first gun that I bought. Had to get all the cosmo out, clean up the metal parts, clean up, iron out, and finish the stock. Shoots good enough now. Lots of fun. Learned a whole lot about how guns function by having to do all of this to it before firing, that I'd reccomend this to anyone instead of buying a new gun first. Modified Yugo FSB with bayo lug and grenade launcher parts removed, and with the top opened up similar to an AK Rick Miller A1 style brake Chinese SKS sling Reciever, gas tube, reciever cover, and front sight painted with high temp flat black grill paint. (In person, this looks almost the same color as an AR). |

I know it has been a while since you posted this, but any info on the stock? It looks like a custom job grafting a PSL with a regular wood SKS stock. Is that correct? How'd you do it?

Only the very early chinese had blades. The spikes are easy enough to find, and are quick to change. You might be able to trade the blade for one too. |
