Were Romys imported before the assault weapons ban? And if so is there way to tell if it’s a true pre ban gun. I know there are plenty of post ban guns built on old receivers.

Any ideas? I found a “pre ban” romy g folder. Curious if it’s actually a pretty ban gun.

No Pre-89 Romy G's.

I believe the G's only came in as kits, so no prebans,

No factory Romy AK legally imported is a pre ban. The oldest was the Sar 1, & it’s a postie. GARY

Yep, there's not a single preban Romy (89 ban) in the US, not even an ultra rare shot show gun or anything, as far as I know.

Then again, you said "AWB", SO i presume you mean the federal AWB that became law in 1994. In that case, the answer is still 'no'. The first ones started coming in sometime in 1999...so roughly half way through the 10 year ban period. Those first guns took high caps from the get go, but didn't have bayo lugs or threads, afaik.

The only possible way to have a Pre Ban Romy is if someone pulled down a Pre Ban whatever gun and rebuilt it in Romy fashion.   That would seem very counter productive though.  I will note that there is a seller on GB that labels guns "Pre-Ban" because of the dates on the trunnions.

We sold thousands of Romy G kits including original barrel before the barrel ban.  $79.99 each.  Oh I would love to have those lovely pallets back in our warehouse!

I only have one left from back then.  It’s funny people are all into the dongs now and back then we were damn near using the G kit dongs for firewood.

No such thing as a pre-ban Romy G. The golden days of cheap AKs is behind us.

1986 Romy G ($349)

Romy AKMS ($289)

Romy based STG2003 in 5.56mm ($410)
