90 degree gas block vs 45, muzzle devices, dust covers. Trigger you mentioned.
The GF5 is an AKM, the 103 is patterned after an AK-100 series, but still close to an AKM internally. I have a 103, it’s very nice. I’d be fine having a GF5. Pick the pattern you like and enjoy, the FN barrel is pretty universally praised as high quality. |

Get both. I have the ak-e, 103, 74, and the gf5. The stock triggers feel pretty good on them, I'm not changing them out.

I just picked up my GF5 from the ffl on Friday. I don't think either one is necessarily "better" than the other. Pick the feature set you like and go with it. I think both will be great rifles.

Get both!
From what I can tell, they're very similar. Different gas block, front sight, and thread pattern. The GF5 comes with an ALG in it which is nice, but you can stick one of those in the 103 if you want. The GF5 isn't currently offered in a folder besides the ugg boot looking zhukov. If you want a 4.5mm folder, the 103 is the one that keeps popping up on their website.

Aesthetically speaking, the 90 degree gas blocks look so much better to me. So that would be my primary, albeit lame, reason for getting a 103 over a GF5.

Yeah, but the nutmeg furniture looks beautiful, so I went that route with the GF5. I plan on leaving the standard polymer furniture on my 103 folder for looks and I haven't decided what to do with my fixed stock 103. The classic furniture is pretty uncomfortable to me but I already have a GF3 fully decked out in Magpul furniture. I might do an AR collapsible stock on it so it matches my AK-E. |

I would choose the GF5 if I wanted a fixed stock, the 103 if I wanted a folder.

Given the choice, I would go with the unit that looks like an AKM, since these are really (internally) trying to clone the akm, not the 100 series. For 7.62 its just looks, 6 of one or half dozen of the other function wise First part is 100% true and accurate. But as I understand it, the reason why they went with the 90 for the 100 series was to streamline manufacturing at izzy/kc, so not just for looks. It is easier to make one pattern of gas block with slightly different characteristics than two patterns of gas block. But thats a fair point from the user end to make. I seen the gf3 series in stock today for $799 and they sold out fast. I held off because Id really prefer a chf chrome lined barrel. what has the price on the gf4, gf5, and 103 been lately?
