I will get pics in a few days but I was really curious looking at some of my bros AK mags. He has a spineless/flat back 30 round AK mag that looks like the top was cut off and had another magazine top attached to it. Almost looked like it would be a 35 round mag or something like that. It appeared well built...not some Buba basement chop job. I have not seen anything like it before. Any idea what it could be?

Sorry if my description sucks lol. I will get him to send me some pics tomorrow. Thanks guys.

I vaguely remember seeing some Eastern European origin 40 rounders that were made from two 30s that were spliced together. We really need a pic from the OP.

I will get a pic. I wasn’t able to get ahold of my bro today. I will get one this weekend for sure though.

Top bit looks like it's from a Chinese spineless.

Seems like some kind of one-off to me.

Agreed. Looks like the top portion of a Chinese "all stamped" 30 round mag.

Without something to compare this mag to, it looks like a cut down 40 rounder.

OP, any idea how many rounds fit in this mag? Can you get pics with a standard 30 rd. mag?

I can get more pics in a day or two. It’s really not much longer than a normal 30 at all. It maybe holds about 5 extra rounds probably not even that many. Probably only like 3 extra …but I’m not 100% sure.

I wonder if it's something like it was a 40rd. Chinese mag, but something happened to it like it was crushed or punctured up in the upper area, and for some reason instead of just tossing the whole mag, someone decided to cut out the damaged area and re-weld the remaining parts back together.  It seems like a huge hassle to save a mag, but you never know, some people do weird one-off things like that just for the novelty sometimes.

Looks to be a National Magazine 40 rounder. They had capacities up to 100 and they all had that funky weld transition peice at the top.

My money is it won't work well.

I'll be damned, never seen them before but a quick search says you're right.

Their 75rd. looks like a 50rd body welded to a 30rd one.

Interesting. It does indeed look like that. I think you are right. Mystery solved.
