[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Arsenal "GAME CHANGER" (Page 4 of 7)

Now back on topic: It's not anything Russian. You're certain of this?
Arsenal = SAM = Bulgarian Izhmash = SGL (In the US) = Russian The reason Arsenal doesn't technically import Russian Saiga rifles anymore is most likely due to Izhmash raising a stink. They didn't want a company, at least in name, associated with the Bulgarian Arsenal company importing Russian rifles. FIME was born to take over. The latest Arsenal "game changer" ad said the SAM family of rifles. Sounds Bulgarian to me. |

What is it with everyone and shooting for the tiniest groups lately? Some of us really don't care. I don't pretend my AK's are tack drivers, and I'm not a professional target shooter. I shoot because it's fun. Period. Torturing myself at a bench with a locked in rifle, shooting groups doesn't seem fun. But that's me. If I can hit an IPSC steel silhouette consistently at 300m, that's good enough for me, and that's what brings me the most joy. Some of you act like we have to know the technical details, the nitty-gritty in order to be "legit" shooters, and shooting tight groups is the most important thing evar. There are different types of shooters. We need to respect each other. Now back on topic: It's not anything Russian. ETA: Clarification/Grammar. Well said, 100% agree with this statement, thread got de-railed when somebody mentioned a 1 MOA AK and I replied that I had one already, so totally my bad, apologies and biscuits all 'round. @Farmer-Ted: No Ted, I don't give two hoots who shoots better than who, I shoot for fun, and occasionally to sight-in for hunting, to sometimes simply test new guns and add to the database, but mostly for fun. I spent several years in competition of various sorts and can still do el presidente fairly quick, and wouldn't mind trying out cowboy action shooting, but all in a friendly fun way. It's just a paraphrase on an old saying: Come shoot with me and you'll know me. I don't know anybody here, and would like to meet some fellow gunners, good-natured ribbing about each other's guns and skills is an old tradition in Texas, it's how we get along, don't mean nothin' by it, maybe it's different other places.... On-Topic: Maybe it's a wildcat shooter, a 7.62x54 case necked down to take a 5.45 bullet and push it to the 3800 fps area. |

.25MOA target with what rifle? Quoted:

One 3 rd group doesn't mean much It never does....but neither does the incredulity of people on the internet. I shoot all the time, or at least I did until I moved up here where Ted lives Please people, read other threads before you post, i'm sure those who do, are sick of me posting the same pics in a dozen threads. Dude I have a sub .25 MOA target I have posted here, and WTF did that get me? Called a liar, that's what, some jackass said I just found the pic on the internet, i'm sitting here with it tacked on the wall behind me, so what exactly do you need and what will it take to convince you naysayers? Y'all ask for targets, I post them, you say they don't mean shit, so what the fuck DO you need? ETA: And ya know, I constantly invite people to shoot with me, and NOBODY ever takes me up on it, Nictra is the ONLY person who ever said "sure, let's shoot", so as far as i'm concerned, he's for real, and the rest of you are fulla talk.
.25MOA target with what rifle? Remington 700 .308, and this is AK tech, not bolt-action, so that's as far as that needs to go, do a search and you'll find where I posted it, and got ragged on as usual for my trouble. On-topic: Srsly, the only game changer would be some iteration of the AK-12, and i'm interested in it solely because of the reciprocating mechanism, curious as to how much that actually ameliorates recoil in the heavier calibers, x54, .308 etc., the rifle itself is fugly. |

I think itll be an SVD or something similar to the saiga mk107. It cannot be anything else because theres nothing "game changing" about rails or folding stocks! I expect the Saiga MK107 will be imported one way or another, but this is not it. Arsenal specified that it is a new SAM, that is the a Bulgy milled rifle. A bulgarian SVD? Possibly, but I doubt it. The Russians would sue them again for copyright violation. |

Arsenal BG doesn't even show a sniper type rifle on their website. Quoted:

So in other words, I should prepare for the disappointment? What do the Bulgarians use for their sniper rifles? I imagine that its a SVD variant. Arsenal BG doesn't even show a sniper type rifle on their website. There is, supposedly, a Bulgarian-made SVD that is issued to the Army personnel. They also use MSG90A1, if I recall correctly. I knew a guy who served in Bulgarian SF in early 2000s, and that's what he told me (i.e., take it for what it is worth). |

SVDs have milled receivers as do the SAM rifles, so there is that very slim chance... I hope this announcement will be something worth while - the lack of saiga imports and insane prices has driven me to the dark side: my first ar15 rifle (build in progress)! Yea, getting a little bored with AK's myself. Something I thought I would never say. Thinking of selling everything and pre-ordering a Six8. |

The Bulgarians I met in Afghanistan were using M91's built by Zastava, not Dragunovs, the Slovaks used Russian built Dragunovs however
PROOF:
Link to said rifles: Zastava M91 |

So in other words, I should prepare for the disappointment? Yes. Prepare to be underwhelmed and overcharged. Add me to the list of guys going back to building a new AR. I can build one in x39 for probably half or less of whatever crap k-varsenal has in store for us. |

Figure if I am going to pay out the ass for ammo might as well get something better than 5.56. |

Haven't they and a few dozen other companies been making 6.8s for several years now? This gun is designed around a new proprietary pmag made for 6.8spc. The regular AR platform didnt have enough room to accomodate the new magazine so they made a gun built around it. |

It is pretty much perfect right out of the box...just add optic. |

would it take two years to design/make a folding stock milled rifle? . No, just advertising horseshit, ad guys are full of it, kind of offensive really, they assume customers are stupid and are gonna ooh and ahh over their BS. Ad guys are often smarter than you'd give them credit for. Like it or not, what Arsenal did here was smart viral marketing: 1. Send an email out a few weeks before a product release, promising a "game changer". Cost to Arsenal: Effectively $0.00 2. Sit back and let everyone on your mailing list spread the word on forums. Those people will create threads just like this one. 3. Doesn't matter if the chatter is positive or negative. Since the object is simply to let people know the product is being released, this is a case of "There's no such thing as bad publicity". Arsenal's customers (and haters) will spread the word for them. 4. Release day comes. And now thousands and thousands of people know about it. Including a lot of people who wouldn't have known about it if not for threads like this. 5. Ultimately, if people like the product and just have to have it, they'll buy it. And if they don't like some aspect of it, they won't. The chatter won't matter too much as it served Arsenal's purpose of letting people know, at almost no expense to Arsenal, that something was being released. Sales are always a numbers game, and it never hurts to have more eyes on what you're selling. I mention this because a theme of this thread has been, "Arsenal's marketing sucks". But given what I just outlined, I'm not sure that it does. |
