Sheriffs & Commonwealth Persecutors Refuse to Enforce New Assault Weapon Ban in Virginia
In light of Grabigail BanBurger’s signing of SB749, which created a criminal penalty for the import, sale, transfer, manufacture or otherwise possession of whatever a salt weapon is, there are 8 and counting prosecutors and Sheriff's offices within the state that have announced that they will not be charging people within their jurisdiction with this clearly unconstitutional law.
In a quote from a joint statement released by Scott County Sheriff Jeff Edds and the commonwealth’s Attorney Kyle Kilgore, “ we believe the law is unconstitutional and does not strike a balance between public safety and constitutional freedoms”.
Their complaints were mirrored by other counties within the state in a far too rare moment where officials followed through with the oath they took to safeguard their citizens rights in the face of what will be clear political pressure to do otherwise.
The Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones has sheepishly complied with the passing of SB749 and released a statement saying that “commonwealth attorneys are expected to enforce the law”, showing his support for the jailing of peaceable people who prior to this bill weren’t committing a crime by possessing adequate means for self defense.
What will come out of all of this political posturing is still yet to be seen, but we will keep you posted on updates as they become available to us!
Federal Ammunition Executes a Contract with the Army to Use Peak Alloy Tech
Federal Ammunition announced on May 27th that they have executed an agreement that allows the US Army to utilize their Peak Alloy case technology in a host of different cartridges and weapon systems.
This Peak Alloy casing tech hit the commercial market back in 2025 with their 7mm Backcountry cartridge. This proprietary steel alloy casing enables for significantly higher chamber pressures without a lot of the drawbacks of traditional steel cased ammunition.
This is also a less complex manufacturing process than the bi metal casings used in other cartridges to achieve the same effect. Now I’m not a ballistician, but my guess is that the 40 million cases projected to be used by just the Army in the next couple of years probably means we are going to see more of this on the market.
And for the reloaders out there yes these are reloadable, which is great news, for those of who who like to dabble.
As a consumer, I’m interested to see what effect this has on the broader small arms market, especially once more firearms manufacturers start making guns with these higher pressure rounds in mind.
